A positive experience and organisation of which I am proud of being part of building its success.
The good thingsLocal Government Procurement (LGP) provided me with strong career development and a number of procurement mentors. LGP has a raft of opportunities available to its staff, particularly through training and professional development. The staff are passionate about procurement, servicing the needs of councils and working with its suppliers, particularly developing in long term, mutually beneficial relationships. It is an organisation that rewards its staff with generally flexible working hours and conditions. It is not an organisation that promotes a culture of 'after work drinks', as the majority of the staff are family focused, but it is a friendly, diverse environment, with regular company-wide meetings and various company social activities throughout the year.
The challengesAs an employee, you need to be clear with what professional development you need - you won't be tapped on the shoulder to be pushed forward. However, the opportunities are there should you wish to actively pursue them. There are a number of strong personalities in the team (of which I was one!), however they are passionate about the work they do and supporting councils.
