Use your time here to get local government experience and network, do not expect growth
The good thingsPlenty of opportunities to understand regulation and codes of practice, free training opportunities to upskill, good place to network, food at the cafeteria was pretty reasonably priced
The challengesThere is very little accountability for management and middle management. They can do whatever they want, no matter how unreasonable, and the employees, particular the expendable casual ones, bear the brunt of the consequences of poor decision making.

Ended up feeling overworked and burnt out. Decided to return to the private sector for higher salary
The good thingsNice people, options for flexible work agreements that suit the business needs.
The challengesLimited recourses, high staff turnover, under staffed, systems out of date.

    Bad management and Low Pay
The good thingsGreat Colleagues, made few good friends
The challengesSenior management is out of touch, focusing more on politics than people. Casual and contract staff are treated differently, with external contractors often overlooked. Principal engineers lack leadership and mentoring skills, leaving young engineers without proper guidance.

Don't bother working here. Not worth the mental stress.
The good thingsThe people are great to work with and there is flexibility.
The challengesManagement (including program leaders) are terrible communicators. They will tell you to do one thing, then do a complete 180 turnaround and then put the blame on others unfairly.

Supportive, flexible and positive working environment.
The good thingsThe overall working environment is excellent - people work at LCC because they care about the community and it shows. The organisation is flexible in terms of work-life balance, leadership encourages career development and recognises and nurtures talent.
The challengesNo challenges that wouldn't be similar in any high-performing local government/large organisation.

Great place to works with amazing work life balance.
The good thingsLogan City Council is a wonderful place to work, with great opportunities for career development, personal growth and my personal favourite - work life balance. Between their 9-day fortnight, free parking, on site cafe and overall culture, I don't think there could be a better place to work.
The challengesContract work can be difficult with not knowing if your contract will be extended until last minute. Once permanent, things are different + a lot easier.

Very flexible for families and supporting their community. They offer TRUE work/life balance with a 9 day fortnight or condensed hours (8 day fortnight) which not many Local Councils can offer.
The good thingsGreat leadership Team who are supportive and collaborative. The sense of community and team support that is offered, is one of the best places I have had the privilege of working within.
The challengesThe Leadership Team are very open to feedback and innovation, I haven't encountered any challenges in this space.

I would never work for LCC again
The good thingsIt was close to home and there was a 9 day fortnight as part of package.
The challengesLadder climbers and individual agendas are rife at LCC. Inter-department collaboration is non-existent. Leadership is influenced by current culture and resistant to change.

Challenging, rewarding and wonderful work/life balance.
The good thingsWonderful work/life balance. Working in Loganwater is aligned with my personal values. Challenging and interesting projects and some passionate people - great team work to deliver. Great culture in Loganwater!
The challengesSystems that are unwieldy to work with. Freeze on hiring means we continually have to do more with less. Timelines are relatively meaningless.
