    Lovely workplace with scam wages
The good thingsPeople I worked with were lovely - empathetic, kind, friendly
The challengesPaid part time wages for a job that fits all the descriptions of casual work. Which was around $24 per hr after tax etc. Abysmal pay not worth the amount of physical labour the job had

    Lovely workers, horrible customers
The good thingsAbsolutely lovely coworkers, I miss working alongside them. If your an arts student or in the entertainment industry you are definitely going to make friends here! Also super cool to see how the park runs and the behind the scenes of it all.
The challengesPersonally I can struggle dealing with really horrible customers, and unfortunately I dealt with many at Luna Park. The main complaints were the ticket prices or rides being closed, and simply relaying this information to guests led to me being yelled at, cursed at, among other many angry comments directed at me. I understand that working in customer service you will always face upset people, but although I never took the remarks personally, it made me feel anxious to come into work. I think that the managers could put more in place to protect its workers from this kind of hostile behaviour, as it is something I've never experienced at any of my other customer service jobs, and it does take a toll. Again, Luna Park isn't responsible for these kind of horrible people, but it is the main reason I left. I'd also like to mention that unfortunately like many other large workplaces they often cut or change shifts at the last moment, sometimes meaning that people miss their break/mealtime.

If you're looking for a fun, novelty job than I would say go for it!
The good thingsI enjoyed the novelty, I liked the people working there. You get to be out in the sun and stay active but its mixed up by rainy days where you get to sit down and relax/clean. It was a lot of fun overall.
The challengesThe system is the issue. It works in "groups". you start with Green (level 1) easy rides but a bit boring. You progress to yellow group (level 2) which everyone will agree is the BEST group to STAY in. The rides you operate in this group are fun but not too challenging. Then you move to Blue group (level 3) - this is the group where people start leaving. The rides are more difficult, the expectations are higher but the pay remains the same. If you stay long enough, you get to move to Red group (level 4). Again, the rides are more difficult, more safety issues and risks & more responsibility but the pay STAYS THE SAME (minimum pay). You're essentially working towards "roller coaster attendant" which only SOME red groupers get the opportunity of. Its quite "favourites" based so if they don't like your personality, they probably wont put you on the coaster, regardless of how long you've worked there.

As fun as it sounds, do not work here
The good thingsOperating Rides can be fun, peer support can be helpful
The challengesPoor management uses ‘vibes’ for uptraining, consistently holding back neurodivergent staff from leadership opportunities, Focused more on maximising profit and minimising staffing costs at the expense of health and safety of staff. Asked to work 40+ hours in school holidays and then will only allocate 3 hours per week in down time. No HR department causing management to not do anything when there are issues between staff members. Extremely high turnover meaning new staff are trained in high risk operations before they are ready, and taught hastily with gaps in their knowledge.

interesting. operating rides is fun, dealing with the craziness of the park, not so fun
The good thingsLots of people so very social environment. Lots of variety in the work. Working outdoors. Can ride the rides before/after work. Lots of work can be picked up in peak periods if need be
The challengesVery bad pay. Management was not great. Lots of petty drama and lots of petty people, which are hard to avoid. Very long and laborious days. They don't hire cleaning staff, so you're expected to do hard, heavy, dirty work (such as deep cleaning toilets, backbreaking ride cleaning, moving large heavy tables etc), in between operating rides on peak 12 hour days. expected to work with highly hazardous chemicals with improper PPE, constant agenda being pushed by luna park staff and management.

    Don't do it to yourself.
The good thingsCan be flexible, some people are nice.
The challengesInconsistent work, unreliable hours, working in heat (up to 40 degree days in summer) without air con. Management won't support you if you have changes in circrcumstance.

Great uni/ holiday / in between job
The good thingsI loved working here. I worked there for 3 summers (and during the year) when I was at uni. It’s customer service but the people you work with are amazing and you make super friends from all over the world. I still call it my favourite job.
The challengesLook sometimes the guests can be pains (especially if you have “special events” when alcohols involved) but that’s just part of the fun and variety. People can suck in any job you do in customer service you take the wins with the loses and this job really is overall a win.

    Fun times with great people
The good thingsLots of fun and worth the effort to see smiles on little peoples faces. The free rides are always a perk, expect when it's a new ride and you have to line up.
The challengesKnowing when a customer is being rude and will call you names, it's very hard to deal with.
