Upper level management should listen more to staff & internal HR issues need improvement
The good thingsEnjoyed working with the "grunt on the ground" workers across various departments & dealing with members.
The challengesThe values and culture in this company were questionable. There was a lot of politics and I felt people were being dishonest. There was no proper internal HR department that fully investigated formal grievances. Senior Leadership Team did not speak to witnesses to verify legitimacy of grievances. Various whistle blowers were treated egregiously & were forced into taking redundancies on the pretext of "changing/restructuring roles" within 6-12mths. They need to implement a proper system (run by a dedicated HR expert) to fully investigate grievances (inc talking to witnesses). They need to evaluate circumstances where mediation is not appropriate for certain types of grievances.

A great place to work when you’re wanting to make a real difference in the construction industry - knowing you’ve helped even one builder or tradie makes every day worth it.
The good thingsWorking every day with a collective who are in it to help the industry and the members. Makes coming into the office every day a lot easier knowing that everyone else is just as dedicated. It’s a great team to be a part of.
The challengesBeing an industry organisation we might not always have the budget to implement new ideas, but they’re always listened to and stored for later on

Great place to work - would (and have) recommended to others that it's a supportive and enjoyable work environment.
The good thingsSupportive senior management team who genuinely care about the people, and work hard to make it a truly great place to work. CEO and Deputy CEO in particular are approachable, accountable and lead from the top. Excellent perks, contributing to work / life balance. Supportive colleagues working towards common goals and objectives.
The challengesBeing an industry-focussed association, some specific roles have limited career development opportunities.

It once was a great place to work but the past 2 years it’s gone downhill.
The good thingsMost people I worked with were amazing especially the ones that had been there for years but they’ve all left now.
The challengesNo avenues to discuss HR issues except going directly to the HR manager who cannot be trusted.

One of the best places I have ever worked.
The good thingsMaster Builders was a fantastic place to work. The culture is second to none and almost everyone worked as a team to achieve the required results. The SLT was welcoming, helpful and supportive with an open door policy. A lot of businesses could benefit from following the Master Builders strategy. There will always be a couple of negative influences but it seems those people would be the same no matter where they were employed. I looked forward to going to work every day and enjoyed every minute of my time there.
The challengesNo real challenges in the workplace. Issues were sorted out very quickly and amicably.

it was my dream job however I should have paid attention to the warning signs.
The good thingsFree Parking - Although I would happily pay to park if some didn't park their at all.
The challengesYou can clearly see the genuine reviews written by staff and those written by HR or those trying to cover up the cultural issues.

Life is short - don't give your time to those who don't deserve it
The good thingsA lot of good staff trying to do their best.
The challengesI was one of approx. 25 staff resignations in the past 6 months from the brisbane head office of approx. 60 staff. Either they are really bad at recruiting the right people or there is a major cultural issue.

A supportive, forward thinking and people focused place to work. Like a second family.
The good thingsI enjoyed my 6 years at MBQ because of the people i worked with, the members i was able to help and the support i received from the leadership team when i needed it. i made lifelong friends and colleagues, i was challenged in my role, i felt valued, and when i had any issues i was listened to. The only reason i left was to expand my skills into a different industry after 20 years working in construction. In the last 3 years of my tenure, i felt that the organisation was making great shifts to properly manage any behaviour or cultural issues that arise as a normal part of business, especially during challenging times like covid. They made a strong commitment to putting more focus into people and culture. They employed a properly skilled and experienced people and culture manager, and started looking to their people for strategy and feedback. This was the best move the business made in my tenure, and improving teams (even if difficult decisions had to be made) was something they really started to excel at and should be proud of. Cultural change is a big challenge for a business because not everyone will want to be on the journey or remain on it. I've noticed some disappointing reviews here, i guess there is discomfort in being challenged to make the workplace a more functional and happier place to work... these types of conversations will mean people either change with the organisation or choose to defy the shift and move on. They can choose to be part of the solution or acknowledge they were part of the problem, and i guess that means sometimes people will be unhappy no matter what. I will always look at my time at MBQ favourably and would recommend it to anyone. Maybe one day I will return.... many others have over the years.
The challenges None within the workplace itself. But the industrial environment within the broader industry can be challenging especially when dealing with tripartite issues, however I was always given sound guidance on how to manage this part of my role.

    A good place to work
The good thingsLots of support, kind people, tools to do job are readily available
The challengesPockets of the business have had bad people work in them, SLT is not the problem. Toxic people are. It is disappointing to see the one star reviews on here, knowing what has actually gone on.

I've never loved going to work more than I do now. The people, the culture and the variety is something I've never experienced before and it makes all the difference.
The good thingsMaster Builders Queensland have a great culture and work/life balance, team-players, professional development opportunities, great central location, diverse business to work across and free parking!
The challengesWorking across multiple business arms can have it's challenges - but it's a marketers dream at the same time, especially for people who love variety. No two days are the same! As a marketer, I love the broad range of experience across multiple sectors such as RTO, Insurance, Membership, Display Villages and more.
