Find somewhere else to work for the sake of your mental health!
The good thingsFree Food, enjoyable sometimes, get to see different types of venues and plated dishes.
The challengesUnfair treatment, favouritism, and bad management can be stressful during the service; it just makes you feel awful! At first, they give you special treatment only to feel overlooked later.

Some key positives but out-weighted by the difficulties.
The good thingsA great place to work if you're looking for a one stop career pathway as there are plenty of opportunities to move around and learn
The challengesA very hierarchical management structure with overall management difficult to work with. Unrealistic work expectations and performance within a struggling environment.

    Could be so much better.
The good thingsLocation convenient Some of the management staff in Food Beverage and Customer service was really good to work with and friendly and helpful.
The challengesThe challenges I did not mind doing the dinners but after a long night working at the dinner functions you have to help remove the furniture from part of convention center to another it was tiring and you were absolutely exhausted . Also the shifts were not spread out equally among the staff some had to do dinners after dinners not never having a day shift. Hygiene ;There were no hand basins to wash your hands and the toilets were so far for you to go use the toilet and only one toilet and was not clean. During some the events the food delivery they used same trolley for all the food the food that was being used on the tables they were removing that on to the same trolley and fresh food on the top of trolley and all dirty dishes at the bottom. I found the food hygiene was not monitored so standard for food safety was not there maybe in the kitchen but after it left the kitchen there not much care food safety practiced.

Great, supportive teams, easy job sometimes and good salary
The good thingsYou will meet people from different backgrounds every day and you will have super supportive co-workers. Management is good enough and the best thing is they pay you 20 minutes per shift to change your uniform
The challengesIf you work for Catering, shift hours can vary vastly, sometimes you finish at 4am in the morning. Other than that, everything is so far so good

A dynamic industry leader who is well lead and full of committed, collaborative employees.
The good thingsFlexible working hours and work from home opportunities. Great camaraderie. Always something new and interesting happening. Some good perks - yoga, massage, health checks, car parking etc.
The challengesEvents by their nature can be demanding at times and so they take attention to detail, commitment, energy and resilience to cater to.

The good thingsOne of the best things about MCEC is its work environment.
The challenges17 plus different departments accross the center makes any role a challenge as you have to know the basics of each department.

Try to avoid this place if you care about your physical and mental health, they won't even let you drink water sometimes during the shift.
The good thingsGreat people to work with, you can have life-long friends at the end.
The challengesRoster, no work life balance, averaging between 20-30k steps per shift, having to work after midnight and staring as early as 4am. Having to deal with incompetent managers who look down on you.

A stressful work-life balance, with a slight saving grace in the form of caring managers.
The good thingsManagement was understanding and never mean to their workers.
The challengesDealing with Human Resources was challenging as the job requires a week to week rostering system. As a result, HR would become disgruntled if you had to cancel shifts. This made working a 2nd job impossible. The week to week roster would lead to a poor work-life balance as you will never know you were going to be free next. Other jobs have rostered me at least 2 weeks in advance. None of the F&B services were properly equipped or designed.

    An interesting work environment...
The good thingsGood hourly rate & central location.
The challengesThe uncertainty of hours every week, managers have power trips they will use to their advantage, no work over the summer period, lack of training when commencing job role, manual labour (moving lots of furniture around from one end of the convention centre to another...) witnessing a lot of food wastage and lastly , staff members not taking recycling seriously.

The good thingsBelow management level mostly good people to work with.
The challengesWorking to 3am hard physical job with no down time only 1/2 hr break on 10hr shift Management bring a new meaning to the term 'micromanage' and send people home that don't 'speed up' whilst doing tasks that can be very dangerous physically, like moving Stages!

no support from upper managment and a head in the sand approach
The good thingsGreat staff, who help each other and are always putting the customer first
The challengesVery bad upper management, never seen 'on the floor' either talking with staff or customers. I believe they DO NOT understand that to look after your staff leads naturally to staff looking after customers

Interesting, challenging and diverse work at an iconic venue.
The good thingsA great time to be working at MCEC, an iconic Melbourne venue. Exciting times with the expansion and a fantastic, approachable and visionary CEO. Lots of diversity in the work we do, good opportunities to work on some innovative projects and a great sense of pride amongst employees. The food is amazing and staff restaurant a big perk!
The challengesLots of projects on the go in addition to the demands of event delivery, a bit unbalanced across the organisation, some areas are really overloaded and under resourced while others are not. Average flexible working opportunities particularly for parents and need better succession planning.
