A highly flexible working life, if you can live with the people challenges.
The good thingsA considerable amount of flexible in work hours, location and how you deliver your work to your client base.
The challengesLow levels of leadership capability. Leadership takes a very passive approach to people challenges, which results in ongoing and complex people problems. Boarderline toxic work environment. A lot of complaints around harrassment of all types. A lot of deep seeded problems.

Treated as a number, easily replaceable, and so burnout management is not a thing. No celebration of consistent hard work, only talked to when things aren't meeting KPIs.
The good thingsFriendliness of fellow paramedics, we are a family of strangers.
The challengesSome management only care about being by the book rather than caring about the well-being of their staff when staff are burnt out and struggling. Control centre doesn't care if you've had time to do your paperwork or had a moment to breathe before you're rushed onto the next job.

Empire builders rule supreme under the vague pretence of inclusivity and HR do not follow their own policies.
The good thingsWere there any? Initially good relationships with co-workers, but the good ones left.
The challengesLow pay, zero support, poor managers allowed to run the show, zero accountability for senior staff, a punch down culture.

The Marketing and Communications department at NSW Ambulance is severely understaffed and will not give you the time of day to teach you the basic needs of your job, before not giving you a chance to prove yourself.
The good thingsThere was nothing good about working here, especially in the corporate environment
The challengesPlenty of hurdles to jump through, no training and development in the corporate side, severely understaffed.

It can rewarding, tiring, worth it and not worth it.
The good thingsThe people are great and I definitely learned a lot.
The challengesIt’s very hard work. It’s tiring with little reward. Sure you get five days off but you spend two of them recovering from your night shift. There is very little support from management when you need it.

    Lonely and not appreciated.
The good thingsA worthy job that needs to be done by someone.
The challengesThe people were a bit cliquey, not friendly at all. They were slow to give me work even though i had been hired to do certain jobs. The building was old and not suited for purpose.

Glad I experienced the job, but was also glad to get out.
The good thingsThe people you work with and some rewarding jobs. Five days off after four days on.
The challengesAlways short staffed; constant stream of new recruits, many totally unsuitable for the job but the Service is desperate so they push them through. Lots of talk about support for staff, but it doesn’t translate into real life when you review the working conditions and expectations.

great frontline role with great people, luckily mostly unsupervised.
The good thingsthe people, the job, the money, the roster.
The challengesconstant procession of lower management trying to make a name for themselves. grossly nepotistic middle management tying up any advancement for bbq club only. indifferent upper management whose only role seems to be sending emails telling everyone how well they’re doing their job.
