Work with a great team, for purpose and satisfaction
The good thingsThe changes we can make to the lives of young people, from such varied backgrounds. There is purpose to the work. The variety of work; different days, different people, different activities. The team - a good mix of people that make up a great team, the support when needed, and the laughs.
The challengesThere are times when the overall structure can make processes slow.

    A wonderful place to work!
The good thingsI've enjoyed being part of an extremely positive and supportive environment. From day one I felt at home and welcomed by the team. I’ve enjoyed working with so many different people, all with their own skills, passion and knowledge, all working towards the same mission.
The challengesI haven't come across any challenges.

PCYC is a mission-aligned profit-for-purpose organisation, which is motivating!
The good thingsPCYC lives by their mission - your work here matters to youth and children. You can see the result of the work you do making a genuine impact. At the end of the day, you know you've made a difference.
The challengesResourcing is light being a not for profit, and so things can move a bit slower in comparison to larger corporates.

The good thingsGenuinely the nicest company I have ever worked for. Head office and leadership are so unbelievably supportive. You are never made to feel useless if you dont know how to do something , they are always there to support!
The challengesNo challenges, just busy not enough time in the day

Positive and engaging with the right amount of challenging
The good thingsI love working at PCYC. The sense of community here is something special — you really feel like you’re contributing to something bigger. Whether it’s supporting kids in programs, helping families navigate enrolments, or seeing members reach their goals, every day has purpose. The team is supportive, the environment is welcoming, and the work is genuinely fulfilling
The challengesWorking with such a diverse community means you need strong communication and patience, but it also makes the job meaningful.

Love it, and it just keeps improving.
The good thingsI genuinely love working here. There’s a real mission behind what we do and you can feel it every day, it actually means something. You’re given proper opportunities to grow, take on new challenges and keep building your career instead of standing still. The people are a huge part of it too, everyone is passionate, backs each other and brings great energy to the place. On top of that, the variety is unreal. No two days are the same and you’re constantly learning. It just makes coming to work feel exciting.
The challengesLike any nonprofit, limited resources can make things challenging at times. You often have to balance big goals with tight budgets and smaller teams, which can stretch capacity. That said, it also creates opportunities to be creative, prioritise what really matters and find smarter ways of working.

Love it here - a great organisation
The good thingsBest organisation I have ever worked for. A positive culture and the people I work with are the best part of the job. The org has fantastic values and is all about supporting local communities through the clubs, youth development and OSHC.
The challengesIt's hard work but with a purpose.

Get your toxic workplace bingo cards ready!
The good thingsKnowing that some of your efforts are driving profits into bettering outcomes for some Queensland youth.
The challengesThe OSHC department is going down lhill fast. Management’s direction is misguided and they’re now reaping the rewards. People are promoted based on allegiance and not competence. Massive retention issue at the moment, people are leaving in droves!

Aligned with Mission and a pleasure being part of the team
The good thingsPCYC is clear about its mission and helps people achieve it. New Learning and Development team has helped me learn and grow my career. Because of its size, there are plenty of opportunities and I intend to chase them!
The challengesThere have been some changes to how Clubs and Youth Programs run, they are good changes and great for young people, but sometimes it's hard to keep up with how programs are rolled out.

    Toxic environment with toxic leadership.
The good thingsI enjoyed the time I spend with the children and families of the services I worked at.
The challengesUnsupportive industry. No work-life balance, underpaid, and management that are not equipped to efficiently lead. Literally worst company I have ever worked for.

Love my job, love oshc, love the kids and families, my happy place.
The good thingsI went from LDC which i was over working at to OSHC and i Love my job. My service is a wonderful place to work and the families and students are fantastic.
The challengesEven though PCYC is one organisiation, there are many branches off the top and some areas are not welcoming and seem to look down at other areas. Can make you feel like you do not belong and can sometime take a while for information to trickle down from the top.

All about numbers, profits and egos ...not the community sadly ... Do not care for their staff , do not value hard work, low pay, no rewards and no opportunity to progress unless you are in the clique. Toxic culture.
The good thingsWorking with children and giving to the community.
The challengesHR is run by idiots who don't know what they are doing and make rules up as they go to suit themselves. Communication between departments non existent , no balance , toxic culture , low pay ... expected to be available, disorganized, last minute with everything and does not serve the community as it claims to. All about numbers, profits and egos ...not the community.

Happy to remain with the company long term
The good thingsThe culture of the entire organisation moving forward is only getting more positive. The support from coworkers, management all the way up to the general manager is like nothing I've experienced at other workplaces. Ive found I feel so much more valued here than I ever did in long day care, plenty of opportunities for PD, for stepping up, or moving to other opportunities within the company. There is definite support there for staff, however they are also so big on the right person in the right role, and some people are just not suited to the roles they're in. Also seeing and hearing about the things pcyc does for different communities genuinely makes me feel like this is a company who does what it advertises, who works to uphold its values.
The challengesThere are a lot of departments, so communication is sometimes either lost in transit, or you don't feel you get enough when you need it, can definitely be breakdowns. Working with kids is definitely not easy.

Love working with these beautiful people who want to make a difference in the lives of others - our community and our people.
The good thingsAn incredibly passionate and committed team, who work hard to make a difference in lives of others every day. Everyone knows our 'why' it's in everything that we do, and people get to live their purpose daily.
The challengesHaving a finite number of resources and time - we could do more with more.

A great organisation focused on progressing and improving.
The good thingsGreat organisation doing really important work for youth. Love being a part of something meaningful. PCYC is increasing their leadership training for managers and staff which is really great to see. Career development is good and I had the opportunity to step into the Recruitment Team Leader role to upskill for 6 months. Supportive and friendly environment.
The challengesChange can feel a little slow.

Progressed to a club manager and have no intention of stopping, been the best career move for me.
The good thingsCareer progression, working with likeminded people and having the ability to give back and help others and help young people pursuit a fit and healthy life.
The challengesEvery job has its challenges, it's how we make each day different more progressive.

No WFH or flexibility with hours even though they advertise that.
The good thingsLots of young people work in the programs which is good
The challengesManagement have no idea what they are doing most have been shuffled around. They will micromanage you so much it makes you feel like a child. The job adverts state flexible work arrangements however, not available when you start. No wfh, no 9 day fortnight, no flexibility what so over. You have an expectation to be on call after hours but no extra pay. Honestly save your mental health.

A few bright sparks amidst a mediocre environment.
The good thingsLots of great kids and staff to work with. Some leaders were exceptional. Very flexible hours.
The challengesDealing with an organisation that seemed to prioritise cost management over child welfare and staff wellbeing.
