Solid job with a lot of positives
The good thingsGreat workplace withfriendly staff. The trucks are in excellent condition, making the job straightforward and enjoyable. The best part is finishing work on time every day! Council also provides fantastic benefits like free pool and gym memberships, encouraging a healthy lifestyle. The coordinators are excellent, understanding family needs and always supportive of taking holidays.
The challengesSometimes the older generation can be a bit stuck in their ways and not always open to younger ideas. Safety could definitely be better, and the vibe can feel a bit testosterone-heavy at times.

Vey Disappointing experience, had high hopes, however loved working with the children.
The good thingsWorking with the children and families
The challengesThe staff and director, upper management, lack of communication, staff development and no leadership. No future direction or career development. Slow moving and lots of red tape. Having to check payslips to make sure you get paid the correct hours.

An enjoyable and worthwhile experience . Would recommend PCC and Local Government in general as a career option.
The good thingsThe work was interesting. The management were very good to work for. Work colleagues were good to work with too. Very stable environment. People tended to stay a long time which gave stability - everyone knew what they were doing. Flexible working arrangements were wonderful. The management were concerned about being progressive so in my field we were considered fairly advanced. Finally, Councils are very diverse organisations and if you are in a corporate role you will learn a lot about many different service areas.
The challengesAs people tended to stay a long time there was little movement and therefore career opportunities were limited by that. You would need to obtain a career advancement at another Council. However, the management recognised this as a problem and took steps to provide career opportunities where they could. Also, when people stay a long time they can be resistant to change. Pockets of resistance.
