Not what they used to be
The good thingsThe friends The discount Pre 2023 plat It used to be fun and challenging in a good way and you had time to develop and invest in your team and you had enough hours to support the workload and didn’t have to constantly hire new people because why would anyone stick around for 3 hours a week
The challengesthey are no longer the company that I joined, the one that put people first and invested time into their team. They wear people down, over promise and under deliver. They no longer invest in their team and anyone who disagrees even slightly is seen as “below the line” for even daring to have a thought that doesn’t align with their exact views. The CEO once said “if you don’t have your work phone on you on the weekends and you’re not getting back to the CEO, then you’re in the wrong business”

Met some nice people here and there but overall very bad.
The good thingsThe work itself was enjoyable and better than most jobs I had before
The challengesVery toxic work environment, bad management, many management changes and basically management doing whatever they want based on how they feel.

I was doing 2IC job without pay or recognition and when I applied for the position (after going through 2 interviews) I was told I am not competent enough for the job (again after i was doing the same job for free for 2 or more months) and after they hired the person for the job (2 years younger than me with NO experience) they wanted me to train them. I was also shafted after not completing a job that i had never done before and was not trained to do (that the manager was supposed to complete) and was stopped given shifts, (I had maybe 1, 3 hour shift a month if i was lucky) and after a month of asking for shifts i gave up only to be told 2 months later (still with no shifts) i cant replace shifts any more as i'm not on the dayforce (rostering system) but I'm apparently still employed ?
The good thingsStaff discount. Nothing else is good about where I worked, some of the team members are nice but most of them are stuck up trying to take all your customers to put their name on the sale.
The challengesThe Managment team are awful, their is no opportunity for growth and you are taken for granted by the higher ups. Barley any shifts are provided and the ones you manage to snag are only 3 hours

    Awful place to work!
The good thingsGood perks, if you manage to be hired with a decent team that’s good too.
The challengesAwful unrealistic KPIs, was given a 4 hour shift to make $800 but was told to count stock out the back for 3 hours. Made $0.10 less than my target in an hour and got put down to one shift a week. Also expect you to figure out the POS system on your own with no training.

Fun with other casuals but management needs to step up their game in regards to mental health and treatment of the lowest income earners in the company.
The good thingsGreat products to work with and staff discount was useful.
The challengesNo regard for the mental health of casuals in the workplace.

    Horrible company to work for.

The challengesHigher up management. Paid peanuts to work your tail off and constantly told you’re not doing enough from the higher ups.

    Apply at your own risk
The good thingsI’d say the environment, especially the team you work with is the most enjoyable part of the experience. Along with being able to expand or enhance your skill level.
The challengesI will say it is quite difficult and even frustrating at times working under a company with such poor management skills. The amount of frequent changes and rules makes it very difficult for employees to adapt towards and Platypus just expect employees to have a “can do” attitude

I wouldn't even work here if I was desperate
The good thingsGood employee discount Opportunity to meet new people
The challengesYou are just a number to upper management. Upper management love to micromanage every single task that you do. There are no training or development opportunities. They are only focused on the $$ any issue is just a temporary bandaid fix

Not a good company or workplace, I would avoid working here.
The good thingsYou meet some good people that you can really become friends with outside work
The challengesManagement is horrible, they don’t care about you at all. Will use you any chance they get and you get nothing in return.

    Unrealistic expectations
The good thingsThe people you get to work with are usually really great!
The challengesPoor management from all levels. Being pushed to sell sell sell even when there aren't opportunities (times and days you're rostered on can affect this) to do so and then that reflecting badly in your weekly performance, which then affects your roster.

    Wish I never worked there
The good thingsPeople you work with are cool and make the days go along
The challenges- Incompetent management, they give you the worst treatment. Never know what you are going to get. - Only thinking about money, blames you for things outside your control. - Never celebrating your wins, always blaming when unrealistic targets are not achieved.

    Wouldn’t work here again.
The good thingsThe team are great, if your store is making money it can be a bit more relaxed. The music isn’t too bad, and the discount is handy.
The challengesUpper management refuse to accept any excuses as to why you may not be making any money. Even if the store is at half it’s capacity, doesn’t stock and popular current styles and the shopping centre is dead they still want to blame it on the team in your store. The pressure and stress to hit targets can be heavy, and there is the expectation to give up your entire summer plans for them.

It was fun, but I'm happy I'll never be back.
The good thingsThe team in store, atmosphere and vibe. I have had some legitimately great experiences in store and made some life long friends.
The challengesUpper management are ridiculous and do not seem to communicate between themselves. They will blame everybody else before they acknowledge that they have made a mistake. They will try and make you sell subpar products and over exaggerate the qualities and benefits so they can push across their % margin for stock holders.

At first platypus was an amazing company to work for, never felt like “work” management very supportive and always giving feedback (good and bad) then higher management changed, values changed, cared more about money than the core roots and turned into a
The good thingsThe best thing about working for platypus was the team members, and original head office crew, great friendships and relationships built with both staff and returned customers, store vibe was always contagious

If it wasn't for the team and discount, isn't worth even a paid hour at Accent.
The good thingsThe people on the ground working with others at Platypus are amazing! Everyone is close and team discount is amazing.
The challengesThe whole company is 5 lefts away from crumbling over. Upper management have no idea what is going on in their stores. There is no reality in the budgets they set and the figures they attempt to drive. There isn't enough training for their full time employees. They ride you hard for everything you don't do well - but you will never get praised or thanked for the hard work you put in and the things you succeed at.
