I have worked across a few roles in my time at Council and have enjoyed each one. Council wants people in the right roles and encourages career changes/progression. My supervisors and colleagues have been supportive and caring not only in a work sense but outside of work as well.
The good thingsThe vibe... its like being part of a family, most people genuinely care about each other.
The challengesCommunity sentiment can sometimes be difficult when there are weather events that impact Council roads etc.

Disappointment kicks in when you realise what is advertised is not what actually happens.
The good thingsThe potential to get long service leave after 5 years.
The challengesZero flexibility as advertised, no opportunities to move up. Toxic work environment.

Working at PSC has been a fulfilling experience where I feel valued, supported, and empowered to make a difference.
The good thingsPSC has a supportive culture with strong values, flexible work and a focus on wellbeing. Career development is encouraged and I’ve had opportunities to grow, take on new challenges and contribute to meaningful community projects.
The challengesBudget limitations can affect resources and timelines, but they also foster innovation, collaboration and smarter ways of working. PSC is proactive in finding improvements despite constraints.

An employee that truly values employees and their wellbeing to achieve a proactive and high performing organisation together.
The good thingsThere is a great culture at PSC, the working conditions are good with a focus on employee wellbeing with a Health and Care program, flexible working conditions and development and growth support program in place. PSC have a focus on understanding their employees to meet their individual goals.
The challengesCouncil is limited in budget so sometimes, technology and modernization is a little slow, however they have an Improvement approach and really spend the funds on things that are a priority and plan for implementation of others when and where they can. Just need some patience.

If you have no ambition, you’ll like it
The good thingsSemi “flexible” work arrangements
The challengesPoor pay conditions especially compared to other government organisations. Laughable organisational structure offers little to no opportunity. Offices are outdated and in most instances not fit for use

A toxic culture driven by fear and job preservation within the Holiday Parks section of Port Stephens Council.
The good thingsBeing part of Council creates opportunities for professional development if management allow such avenues to be pursued.
The challengesA toxic work culture within the Holiday Parks and Koala Sanctuary section. Toxic mid level management and HR.

Would gladly return to work there if i can.
The good thingsThe work environment in the record department was lovely. My role was only a temporary contract position, so I wasn't there long, but the people were great, and they celebrated everyone's birthday with a big spread. Understanding management allowed for an excellent work/life balance. Never stressed in my position.
The challengesMissing the opportunity to work there full time.
