I enjoyed working with the young people but I knew I need to go elsewhere to receive the training and support I wanted to advance in my career and better support our young people in OOHC.
The good thingsLoved working with the young people. Paid well.
The challengesMinimal training and support, the office culture was not welcoming and there appeared to be more concern about office politics than the children.

PYW is a company that I had the great pleasure of working for, with great staff.
The good thingsThe company is interested in the development of its staff and the company itself. PYW is a company that wants it employees to succeed and be happy in the workplace, as well as offering work/life balance.
The challengesNot my particular role, but other roles in the company can be stressful by nature due to the requirement of the role.

    Worst employment of my life
The good thingsWork pattern gave good time off
The challengesManagement were appalling and only interested in saving money. They ran units for profit and ignored the needs of the children in them to save money.

    Horrible profit organisation.
The good thingsWorking and helping kids in care.
The challengesA profit organisation that only cares about the profit. Case workers spend more time trying to discipline carers for any and all infractions if you disagree in any way about how to work with the kids.

Premier Youthworks provides the opposite of therapeutic care.
The good thingsBeing able to work with youth and make a difference to their lives.
The challengesManagement - incompetent, under-qualified, misguided, awful office culture, don’t care about their staff or the young people in care. The list goes on.

One of the best employers I have ever worked for.
The good thingsAlways valued and heard, I had the best reporting manager who made work fun and you have it 110%. When your manager is by your side there is nothing you can't do.
The challengesChanging the culture of another department.

    Disappointing!
The good thingsWorking as a mentor to young people.
The challengesWorking with young people with a range of behaviours and needs, you need straight answers, support, an unbroken promises to kids, programs and employees from management.

One of the worst companies to work for.
The good thingsThe pay, and being able to bring about a change in young peoples lives. Community service.
The challengesThe management is very unsupportive. The management has the least interest in WHS and don't care about the staff. The only thing the management looks forward to is their weekend off. No wonder they lost their contract in NSW.

Spoiled by poor leadership. Hope this has changed.
The good thingsPositive roster. Good work life balance.

A horrific employer with no regard for staff or clients.
The good thingswhen payed correctly and on time, pay can be good.
The challengesno support from management. You get punished when you don't do what they want (i.e last minute shift changes, changing your working line etc). Pay is usually incorrect or late. Senior management is not client focused, only dollar focused.

Good place to work with great training from induction and onward. Can be hard to get support at times as everyone can be under the pump and busy. This is more due to the nature of the kind of work not the people.
The good thingsGood people who care about positive outcomes for traumatized children and young people
    The challengesMedia input. Budgets.

The Young People deserve better. Don’t think you’ll be able to make a big impact and change their lives, because you won’t. Their lives are dictated by a COMPANY, a business. Cram multiple kids into one house with different trauma histories and watch as t
The good thingsFull time - Working 4 on & 4 off Payrate is good
The challenges* Can be very challenging & stressful * Decisions made in a office by a team who don’t work daily with the young people & don’t understand (or perhaps care) about the impact it will have on them and the team of Carers working with them *They make decisions that are not therapeutic for the young people * is a FOR PROFIT company and this absolutely impacts rules and decisions made

Great opportunity for growth, ongoing training and career opportunities
The good thingsOngoing training, good rostering system and friendly roster support staff, support from your own team manager, houses are set up as a comfortable and homely environment. They encourage yp to participate in after school activities, generally approve yp to have branded clothing items (not just cheap Kmart clothing like most residential services).
The challengesMy experience is based off working with supportive and positive team managers. I have heard other people haven’t had the best experience with their team managers.

The rostering for FT is good for providing work/life balance. Organisational structure good. Both staff and YP sometimes let down by profit-driven management.
The good thingsOpportunity for professional development and training.

Loved my positive experiences and was celebrated for them, but negative experiences with certain clients were not handled with as much enthusiasm by management as the positive ones leading to a feeling of lack of support.
The good thingsChance to make a difference
The challengesMismanagement and lack of safety/support in ultra dangerous situations.
