Profit Over People: A Toxic Work Environment
The good thingsThe families were by far the best part of this role. Building meaningful relationships with both children and their parents was incredibly rewarding. Many families were kind, appreciative, and genuinely invested in their child’s development, which made coming to work enjoyable despite the challenges.
The challengesThe high staff turnover made it very difficult to maintain consistency, which was frustrating for both staff and families. The centre director seemed unsure of how to effectively manage her team, which often left staff feeling unsupported and undervalued. On top of that, interactions with head office were frequently unpleasant: communication was rude and the overall environment felt toxic. It became clear that the company’s primary focus is profit. If a centre isn’t meeting financial targets, the response is usually to cut budgets and reduce staff hours rather than provide support or guidance, which negatively impacts both the children and the educators. Children who require additional support often do not receive the care they need, and without proper guidance or resources, educators also struggle to do their jobs effectively. Overall, the workplace felt more focused on financial outcomes than on creating a supportive environment for staff and children alike.

Outdated approach to early learning, toxic culture and no ability to want to improve or learn
The good thingsFlexible working hours, management tried their best to best suit everyone's needs, understanding of educators with their own children
The challengesA lot of gossiping behind people's backs, this came from management too, safety complaints were never taken seriously, therefore educators continue to behave inappropriately, members of the management team used power over responses and behaviour towards educators, old and outdated approaches to children's development, judgemental comments made about families, toxic culture, management who cared about KPIs, budgeting and money, if only the families knew what was really going on, mental health of staff is very poor and you're blamed for speaking up

Toxic management culture that negatively impacts staff wellbeing and mental health
The good thingsBuilding personal resilience against the many adversities faced working for this organisation.
The challengesHead office leadership lacks empathy and accountability. Psychological safety is non-existent, raising concerns or challenging decisions does not feel safe. Management behaviours are often defensive, reactive and unprofessional. The culture feels more like schoolyard politics than what should be a mature organisation. There appears to be more focus on protecting the company’s image than addressing systemic issues (it is quite comical that staff have had to be asked to write positive reviews, queue the many 5 star reviews all dated around the same period). Long-term staff will recognise a complete disconnect between what management would like the public perception to be and internal reality.

Head office pressures all their workers to write 5 star reviews even if they don't want.
The good thingsThe Healthy Cooking Company had some good meals.
The challengesWhen working there we were all told we had to write a 5 star review on here so I'm giving them a 1 star review because that's a reflection on how upper managment dealt with everything. They never listened and just pressured everyone into doing things the way they like without any insight or care to know and understand the centre. It was one size fits all for all of their centres. The head office team are not nice.

    10/10 recommend!!!!!
The good thingsThis is a company that puts their money where their mouth is! They truly go above and beyond for their educators, highest amount of off the floor time I have ever seen, all centre staff get bonuses and the head office team truly care.
The challengesSmaller company but this is also a plus in many ways.

A joy to wake up to and have a rewarding day
The good thingsThe strong camaraderie and collaboration among your fellow colleagues create a vibrant atmosphere, while the unwavering support from your managers and directors fosters a sense of trust and guidance. Additionally, the heartfelt appreciation expressed by the staff and families of the center adds a layer of fulfillment and motivation to our work, enriching the overall experience for everyone involved.

QCCS is a supportive and positive company, with the children at the heart of everything the company does. The leadership and support offered is amazing.
The good thingsI have worked within our QCCS company for 6 years between services. A company that values its employees, and most of all - the children we are employed to educate and care for!
The good thingsThis is a company with purpose and heart. Their practices align with their mission and values, which means they deliver on what they say they are going to do. There is a great support network available to you, filled with passionate and knowledgeable people.
The challengesAs with each company, there are some unique points of difference which are unlike other providers. However, intensive and thorough induction and training is provided in the early stages of your employment to help you understand the purpose behind these initiatives. My particular role does involve some challenges, not unlike the same role with other providers, however the connection and support with the team make these challenges seem so much smaller.

I enjoyed my time with QCCS and learnt a lot of valuable skills.
The good thingsThere was a lot of support provided, and educators overall were supported to upskill and succession planned.
The challengesIn the service I was with, some of the educators/management team had been there for a long time and over time practices have changed, however, this wasn't the class in this service. Management were supportive within the service however when it came to moving forward this led to a hard decision.
