If you're going to work in F&B, there are better places.
The good thingsIt's a handy place to work.
The challengesIt's badly managed and a very badly organised "organisation".

Don't work here, management, especially executives and heads of will do anything but support the staff or change the working conditions. Toxicity is what keeps the place running.
The good thingsSome of the staff were ok
The challengesManagement is TOXIC. HR is an absolute joke - sending out surveys that point where the issue is just to... Ignore it.

Once an amazing workplace, now toxic and underpaid. Horrible management, and even worse communication.
The good thingsThe old managers who knew how to do their job.
The challengesToxic environment between coworkers and other departments. Operations manager Jonathan does not treat you with any respect or cares about physical and mental health. They would rather buy another 500 new chairs because they did not like the colour than support their staff.

QPAC is roleplaying as a government-owned workplace and significantly underpays its staff. I’m baffled that the theatre staff—technicians, FOH, and Food & Bev—haven’t gone on strike yet.

Toxic work culture has harmed what used to be a decent workplace.
The good thingsCasual employment means you can plan days off "within contract"
The challengesThe building is in dire need of repair and has some unsafe aspects for workers. Feedback is never applied. Since COVID, QPAC has fallen a part and bred a horribly toxic work culture. Middle managers who used to save the place have left. The financial pressures have seeped into management who in turn find any way to lay off employees and give shifts to those in their deal with Griffith University's Conservatorium. There are no growth opportunities. Management is substandard, poorly trained, full of twenty year olds with no people experience and completely toxic. Upper management is so rooted in their roles that they turn a blind eye to toxicity. Human Resources is an industry joke according to other companies, has a high turn over so you never feel supported and will not support workers adequately. Inclusion and diversity is a joke - it's all a brand-image façade and unfortunately the toxicity has completely destroyed this organisation. They want silent submitters with no individuality, intelligence or diversity outside the cookie-cutter robot. Maybe in the future this place will fix itself. Do yourself a favour and skip this workplace to take care of your mental health.

Not worth your mental wellbeing, you deserve better.
The good thingsCo workers, CAN be easy work. Great flexibility if you're studying.
The challengesThe Management doesnt care about employees wellbeing and often overwork their staff, they do not take in suggestions, you MUST follow an outdated uniform code which can give you heat stroke in summer. Very small pay gap between rolls so not worth going for promotion.

QPAC is good for industry beginners seeking experience in staging work. Leave once you have it. You’re worth more.
The good thingsSome of the best technicians in the country
The challengesAustralia’s leader in underpaying staging staff.

I will never proudly say I enjoyed my time at QPAC
The good thingsYour co-workers are the most dedicated people you will meet in the arts
The challengesInstitutionalized state arts center, middle and upper management that have little to no connection to staff - replication without innovation.

    QPAC EMPLOYEE REVIEW
The good thingsStaff members always get along so well and you make a lot of new friends, you have a decent pay, and for the most part they will always take care of you. I would definitely recommend this job to other students.
The challengesThe hours go from one extreme to the next, you could be working only 4 hour weeks for a month and then have 2 months of 30 hour weeks. It all depends on what shows are playing.. so it can be really frustrating at times. The rostering system they use is outdated and can be difficult to navigate sometimes.

The best job I've ever had!
The good thingsThis truly is a workplace where they care about live art performance entertainment and education. If you're passionate about those things and have a high work ethic, it's the place to be.
The challengesSemi government does come with challenges but every effort is made to manage those constraints.

I love going to work every day.
The good thingsQPAC is a welcoming, friendly and inclusive place to work. Opportunity to meet and work with a diverse range of people and to see lots of great performances. The rewards and recognition scheme is a great motivator and acknowledges loyalty to the organisation and individual service excellence. Being casual it is great being able to pick and choose when you want to work, as long as you work every Wednesday and Saturday.
The challengesThe usual challenges working in customer service. Not many opportunities for career development and progression.

Vibrant, progressive, characterised by enthusiasm for the arts, and a growing area for digital expansion.
The good thingsPlenty of opportunities to experience shows for free, surrounded by a great part of Brisbane city - the river, south bank, cultural centre precinct - and a company culture which gives you freedom to learn new skills as part of your work.
The challengesReally the only challenge could be adjusting to the arts industry approach to business practice - possibly less corporate than you may have experienced (but in a great way, once you adjust), and aligning yourself with the performing arts mentality - but I came from a background of law and medicolegal and grew to love it within weeks.

I'm very lucky to be part of QPAC
The good thingsPeole in qpac are very helpful. They are always willing to train you. They always give on the spot rewards which makes the employee more motivated to work. They always appreciate when you do a great job, and they will teach or help you when you make mistakes. People are all friendly. Managers/supersivors are all approachable, they willing to listen when you need help.
The challengesI'm new here in Australia, so it's a challenge for me to learn there Food, drinks, wine and etc. Also english is not my first language so it was a bit hard for me to communicate with them because it's either they can't understand me or me can't understand them, but becAuse my workmates are awesome they always help and assist me. And now i'm very confident to talk to the customers.
