I have worked a variety of casual contracts over the last year and intend to stay!
The good thingsI have loved the flexibility and autonomy in my roles at SCU. The people I work with are committed to seeing the students succeed and share an ongoing passion for lifelong learning.
The challengesMost workplaces have their challenges but I like that if something comes up, the people above me really support me, care about my wellbeing and advocate in my best interests.

I had great opportunities to learn with excellent access to facilities, but be prepared to move on because in such a mall institution, there are few opportunities for career progression.
The good thingsGreat place to live, great community, some of the staff were great.
The challengesSome staff were toxic. Undermined managers who had no support from HR. A few people were really divisive, and worked to isolate people they didn’t like.

Nonetheless, it has a very sane working environment, unlike a previous company for which I've worked nearly 20 years.
The good thingsBeautiful campus, great support for staff and students. The best I've seen so far in the education sector.
The challengesThe university is struggling financially, as are most others in Australia, and management has had to make some tough decisions. One of which has been to freeze all employment in my sector.

Extremely disappointing - many quality staff have left.
The good thingsI was able to move onto to work in better quality organisations from this point.
The challengesPoor management! Little appreciation of needs of students and teaching staff. Satellite campuses are poorly treated and resourced - the University is focused on the Lismore/Head Office campus.
