Love my job, but feel undervalued / disappointed. The good thingsThe people, the job & salary packaging options.
The challengesCertain members of \"Management\" seem to regard feedback from well meaning and dedicated staff, an inconvenience and hassle, despite initially inviting staff to offer suggestions in the first place.
The feedback and those offering it, then seem to be regarded as though they are being negative or complaining. This is not the case and relates more to the fact that the so called leaders in question, have little or no idea about the true operational realities of the role, because they have never done it. The \"open door\" policy is also a myth - they don't really want to hear what you have to say and if you put anything in writing via email, 99% of time it is not acknowledged.
There is also little or no acknowledgement for going the extra mile from a key member of Management / senior staff, which has greatly impacted morale, to a point where most staff will now only do their rostered hours and have become less willing to do more, because it's not appreciated.
More acknowledgement (including a fair hourly rate for challenging work) and improved basic communication skills, such as eye contact and a simple greeting in the morning from the Manager, would no doubt make a world of difference to how staff feel. When employees feels valued and appreciated, they feel happy and that equates to a more positive working environment. Currently there needs to be a vast improvement.
