Paramedics - Don't do itThe good thingsOccasionally got to work as a paramedic, and do paramedic things
The challengesThe service appears to be heavily focused on image and branding, with limited operational or clinical support from management. Clinical governance is weak, with outdated protocols and practices that do not reflect contemporary paramedic standards. The workplace culture is toxic, characterised by a pervasive “not my job” mentality that undermines teamwork and prevents the development of a cohesive, supportive environment.
Despite roles being advertised as suitable for experienced paramedics, autonomy is significantly reduced in practice, with clinicians often treated as little more than transport providers rather than trusted professionals. Prior training, qualifications, and experience are given minimal recognition. Training practices are particularly concerning; rather than addressing identified deficiencies through structured education, the organisational response to several serious incidents has been to further restrict scope of practice, compounding the problem instead of fixing.
