Definitely one of the best places to work in the Northern Rivers.
The good thingsFast paced dynamic environment with great people and leadership driving continuous improvement. An organisation that genuinely takes ethics and its environmental impact seriously. Working in Lismore HQ is an increasingly fun place to be as the office culture returns to normal after COVID and flooding.
The challengesBeing a small organisation with finite resources, the workload and expected delivery dates can be unrealistic at times. The banking industry can of course be challenging from a compliance/process/regulatory perspective taking up a notable amount of the week depending on the position. This can make innovation and implementing improvements more difficult. The Lismore office is pretty grotty and 80s era dated and in need of modern renovation.

    A very welcoming experience.
The good thingsWork culture if very friendly and the people are easy to get along with.
The challengesNot too many, but the salary could be higher. Also working in small teams is nice but there's not as much room for career progression.

Experienced operators who have the confidence and ability to drive the business forward whilst truly caring for the needs of their staff
The good thingsTreated as an equal. My experience is recognized and appreciated. Systems, procedures and policies are easy to use. Management listens and keeps in contact. Morale is excellent.
The challengesGetting the brand name recognized in the Clarence Valley so that we can grow the business. Covid and staffing issues have meant limited opportunities to network and walk the streets

Fantastic culture, a company with an exciting future ahead.
The good thingsThe culture being fostered. The business has direction where senior management take the time to listen and most importantly take action. The company lives its core values and is constantly striving for improvement.
The challengesProcesses need to be streamlined for a consistent approach. Depending on location, workload can become quite busy. The salary is low when compared to the bank award, but as a credit union it is average.

    Great
The good thingsGreat branch staff and management, higher management is very considerate of the needs of their staff and accommodates well when they can, good working conditions.
The challengesThe banking system can be a pain, it is quite backwards sometimes. The smaller branches are understaffed so time off is hard to come by.
Summerland Credit UnionThanks for the review! We understand that the banking system can be time consuming. It is of the utmost importance that we handle customers banking ethically, respectfully and accurately. We do acknowledge that there was a period of time where we were under-resourced. We are working tirelessly to rectify this and improve work-life balance to retain valuable employees. We would love to hear any suggestions and improvements you may have that might save time, please feel free to contact HR, [email protected]

    Awful. Avoid at all costs
The good thingsAdditional week of annual leave.. if you ever get it approved to use it
The challengesIf you aren't working in the Lismore branch, it's a terrible experience. Branches understaffed, overly cumbersome processes, awful pay, no transparency, terrible management, worse senior management, toxic culture, no career advancement or development

Enjoyable environment that allows all staff to have important impact on the front line.
The good thingsadditional leave allocation, volunteer/community work encouraged. smaller, flatter management structure, able to act nimble & make changes that benefit.
The challengessmaller structure may bring need to spread skills across variety of job duties
Summerland Credit UnionMany thanks for the review. We agree that additional leave can come in handy! Volunteer leave is great for staff to engage with the community and make a difference to our customers and the community.

Frustrating if you've worked in any other financial institution.
The good thingsMost of the other people you work with. The philosophy of working for a customer owned bank, with the aim of being dedicated to customers not shareholders.
The challengesSummerland relies on its image of being a good corporate citizen with a reputation of putting customers first. Unfortunately there isn't the same consideration given to staff. Senior management is lacking experience of the industry and make ridiculous decisions.
