Civil 'scamming' - not civil service.
The good thingsFlexible work schedule & locations (WFH), 9 day fortnight, superannuation benefits, regular salary increases in line with financial year.
The challengesThere is a strong emphasis on reducing public service in favour of cost saving. It is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver good results for the people of the Sunshine Coast due to micromanagement. It's very evident that few employees care about the region they are working for.

It has its challenges, and I can see how some don't like it, but I overall enjoyed working here, and would recommend it as part of a well-rounded career.
The good thingsInteresting work, opportunity for different experiences
The challengesToo easy for people to 'disappear into the machine'

Sunshine Coast Council gives you all the tools to make a difference but lets you do none

    Definitely recommend working here.
The good thingsAn outstanding team culture, supportive managers & work-life balance through 9-day fortnight arrangements. Great range of employee perks including the wellbeing initiative (Fitness Passport) & employer super contributions above the super guarantee.
The challengesSystems & approvals in any government organisation can be complex for new employees to grasp but once comprehended, it enables to see the 'bigger picture'. Career progression can be competitive too but for those dedicated to the goal, it can also very rewarding.

    Best workplace in Australia
The good thingsAn awesome organisation to work for. People are motivated and morale is always high. There are many of opportunities for project work and career progression which is great for job satisfaction. There's also plenty of variety in the role, no day is ever the same. They encourage work-life balance by offering a 9-day fortnight and flexible working arrangements.
The challengesSome systems and processes can be complex like any other local government.

Great employer that I plan on staying with for many years to come
The good thingsI've been with the Council for over 12 years and in that time had the opportunity to learn and develop within my career, try new projects and roles and am now on my 3rd permanent role. There are some great benefits such as the '9 day working fortnight', subsidized private health care, access to the fitness passport and additional employer super contributions.
The challengesIt can be difficult to progress within the organisation due to so many staff members choosing to stay with Council long-term meaning less opportunities arising, but if you apply yourself and take any and all opportunities as they arise, have patience and persistance, you will get what you're after.

    An employer of choice!
The good thingsA very good place to work. High calibre of people at SCC - most people are exceptional & passionate at what they do. Work/life balance made easy with a 9-day fortnight and flexibility when needed. Was able to complete 2 formal qualifications through SCC - a certificate qualification as well as a degree (granted 5 hours a week study leave to make classes at university).
The challengesSometimes the workload is a lot, but management is good at listening and making adjustments.

If you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to get a role in Council your experience will be a fulfilling and positive one.
The good thingsThe people are amazing and are committed to making a difference for the community.
The challengesIt’s hard to get a permanent role in Council, it is so competitive and so many people are competing from the one job, more often than not the role is already filled by someone in Council or someone they know.

Great place to work - depending on the Branch you work in.
The good thingsYou reserve great superannuation, Rostered Days off and regular pay increases to your salary for the new financial year.
The challengesYou have to jump through various ‘hoops’ to have something done and there is a lot of micromanagement

The good thingsSunshine Coast Council offers an encouraging environment that enables the employee the opportunity to progress their career, through training opportunities, mentoring and ongoing support.

Great people, good balance, plenty of challenges and its a progressive place to work.
The good thingsThere is good support for a work life balance and staff generally support each other in there work. There is a culture of innovation and forward thinking which makes work exciting and people productive
The challengesThere is lots of general work and special projects on that make time management difficult. Also there have been many org changes which hopefully will settle down. The state meddles in our award conditions. which
