Overall experience was subpar, with challenges in management, clarity and morale.
The good thingsI was fortunate to build strong connections and make lasting friendships that I’ll carry with me beyond the role.
The challengesAreas for improvement at Swissport largely centre around staff retention and clarity within roles. There appears to be a disconnect in how management approaches retaining employees, particularly when it comes to offering competitive and appropriate wages. Strengthening this would likely improve morale and reduce turnover. Additionally, there is a need for clearer role definitions and expectations. Ensuring staff understand exactly what is required of them and what falls outside their scope would create a more structured and supportive working environment, helping employees perform their roles more effectively and with greater confidence.

Quite possibly the worst career experience of my life. Avoid at all costs. No career progression.
The good thingsFrontline staff are the only reason the operation continues to function. Teams support each other because they have to, not because the business is well run. Do not work here if you value your dignity or sanity.
The challengesSince the change in senior leadership, the Melbourne operation has materially declined and continues to deteriorate. Workforce planning is consistently ineffective, with basic staffing requirements not forecasted or met despite being entirely predictable. The operation is run reactively, with problems addressed only after they have already impacted service delivery. Leadership decisions frequently demonstrate a lack of operational understanding, creating avoidable issues that frontline teams are left to resolve. The same failures occur repeatedly with no meaningful corrective action, indicating either an inability or unwillingness to address the causes. There is little to no visible accountability at a senior level, with responsibility routinely pushed downward. Decision-making and progression lack transparency and do not consistently reflect capability or operational competence. Fixed salaries for rotational shift work are well below market rates.

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS MOB!! If you value your own self worth, work anywhere but for them!
The good thingsBeing in and around Aircrafts and ‘some’ lovely co-workers.
The challengesToxic Manager at this station MCY! Zero communication! Obvious favouritism to select staff! Very poor hourly rate! You will NOT be supported or even spoken to about being advanced to other roles! If you love following extremely contradictive ridiculous rules while passengers give you a really hard time because they have too much weight in their carry on and be stuck standing in one spot for hours on end, then you’ll love this job but for the rest of us, one of THE worst roles at the Airport! Very confrontational, very little safety, NO back up from management. They don’t tell you about this role when recruiting; (Cabin Baggage Officer)! All shifty practices and no straight answers ever - if you can get any! Maybe other airports are run differently with a properly competent and communicative Manager but MCY a joke! Best part was the second I quit! Rostering is erratic, pay is terrible, hours are ridiculous! Can’t plan anything. They don’t appreciate their good staff hence high turnover!

Poor pay, poor working conditions, stingy, no communicaiton with the management
The good thingsThe team was friendly and supportive, and we all worked together under the same pressures, creating real camaraderie. The fast-paced airport environment kept things exciting, and meeting people from all backgrounds made each day interesting and rewarding.
The challengesCommunication from management was poor, making tasks frustrating and unclear. Pay was low for the workload, and staff areas were often dirty with no proper place to rest or eat between flights. Strict rules and constant pressure left no room for balance or support. After leaving, I realized there’s nothing I miss about it, apart from learning what kind of workplace culture I don’t want again

Save yourself and not work for Swissport. They don't deserve you!
The good thingsNothing, except some of Airport staff were nice.
The challengesPretty much about this company is horrible. From management down to colleagues. Backstabbing, lies, laziness, unmotivated, fake, incompetency, extremely high turnover, you name it. I understand you need a job because you need money but soon you'll realize your mental and physical health will suffer and you'll want to leave. Better not to apply in the first place for this company or their entities.

Don’t bother to apply. Hourly pay is ridiculously low & appalling rosters. Didn’t even last 2 weeks
The good thingsOther trainers who were trained with me.
The challengesBetter organisation of rostering. Expecting staff to work only for 4 hours per shift starting at ridiculous hours like 2am or 4am.

I enjoyed the job itself, but misleading expectations, toxic management, and extreme fatigue.
The good thingsThe work itself has been the only aspect I’ve truly enjoyed; however, there are still issues with misleading practices and a toxic work environment.
The challengesManagement offers little support and treats employees as replaceable rather than valued individuals. The work environment is highly toxic, with excessive micromanagement and power-tripping among upper management. The workload leads to extreme fatigue, while penalties and consequences do not adequately reflect the demands of the job. Ultimately, the only “reward” is stress. Employees are also expected to work outside of scheduled hours just to keep up with flight operations.

    Where NOT to work!!!
The good thingsThe planes Meeting the aircraft crew Meeting selected staff
The challengesThe Customer Service management be replaced along with associated cronies Professional conduct from management Consistency regulations at EVERY airport Get rid of favouritism New Customer Service Trainers Better access to uniforms Better working conditions - current place is full of mould, get pressure pads for long term standing Dressing room is a curtain drawn in the locker room which is situated in the meal room Current working environment is toxic. The pay rate for the expected responsibilities is absolutely pathetic

I would not wish working at Swissport on anyone
The good thingsI thought that Swissport was a good company to learn in and gain some valuable experience in the workforce especially withing the aviation industry I made a few friends there and we enjoyed our laughs together
The challengesCompared to other airport ground handling companies in Australia I will tell you Swissport is a complete joke we are highly casualized met with poor management and inconsistent rostering it has also been made abundantly clear that this company clearly does not care about working conditions and wellbeing.

It's a good place to learn and start a career, but it's a terrible company
The good thingsI get to look at planes and I work with some amazing and funny people.
The challengesEverything needs to be improved. Management are incompetent and set unrealistic expectations, they are so understaffed and under resourced, they'll hire anyone not taking into account physical or metal aptitude.

DO NOT DO IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT
The good thingsSome of the people there are amazing and will become good friends from trauma bonding. Get to be a big kid and work around aircraft
The challengesThe inconsistency with rostering ensuring you don't have a work life balance, inconsistence with enforcement of rules, favouritism between staff and treatment of workers from management. Some of the staff that worked there are useless and should of never been hired You'll either be pushed up quickly to the point where you can't advance any higher or remain at your current role for months while people who started after you advance before you

Good chats but terrible work place
The good thingsYou'll make some good friends and usually get along with all the staff fine and you get plenty of hours if you beg
The challengesGenuinely one of the most toxic work places I've come across, the higher ups really don't care about you and they will jump at the chance to throw you under the bus if it saves the face of the company. It's a very unsafe workplace even though they say they strive for safety over schedule but if you're late in something get ready for an chewing out and shame

This is a job for crazy people. The pay ain't great, every now and then you get a really difficult guest you have to deal with, and the hours you work are also awful (anywhere from 430am to 11pm). Good eye-opening work experience though.

Do not work here, Management doesn't care about youWorked here for about 4 years, worked with some amazing people who really helped you get through the day, but the management, more than anything middle to upper management, do not care. They don't care about you, they don't care about safety. They care about on time performance, their personal image and the company image, and the money. That's it.

    Great staff, poor management
The good thingsMy work colleagues are hard working and helpful
The challengesManagement take advantage of people’s hard work. Refuse to assign required breaks, and do not show consistency when dealing with incidents. Everything is blamed on the worker regardless of systemic failings or unserviceable equipment causing issues.

Wasn’t overly excited coming into work
The good thingsThe atmosphere is great, meet and greeted alot of good people along the way. You learn a lot of things outside when you’re near the aircrafts. Pretty easy job straight forward.
The challengesThe shifts alternate everyday, you could be doing two days on earlys and then the next you could be doing nights. There goes your sleeping schedule out the door. It’s a struggle to get up and travel all the way to work and just to earn a few dollars when this job is serious.

Disgraceful Company that should rethink about who they are and teach their supervisors to better communicate and treat the staff.
The good thingsThe diversity of the staff and learning from each other.
The challengesIt’s near impossible to Progress and get signed off on things if you‘re not liked or so be called one of the Supervisors ‘favourites‘. The supervisors don’t let you know how well you are doing and how you can improve during probation, instead they keep it to themselves and eventually sack you.

    Favouritism and bad management.
The good thingsSome of the people you work with
The challengesYou either work 45+ hours a week or you work barely any, there's no in-between. the availability to progress to a higher level depends on if you're a favourite or not and how much you suck up to management and the trainers. the workload is either massive and you don't get a break and they expect you to work non-stop even on 36 degree days without water breaks or you sit around waiting for delayed flights and you get in trouble for not doing anything. You can't please management no matter what you do, and you will never progress unless you're kissing someone's behind.

Do not join Swissport at all cost.
The good thingsThe people working with you, not management.
The challenges-Bad hours, no overtime. -Bad management, also delaying on stuff and using staff to an extreme level. -Try to be a professional company but nothing about it is professional. You would be working around multi million-dollar aircrafts however the equipments, environments and everything they gave you does not match up to the clients aka airlines expectation. -Newly hired people are chosen in random way, no quality insured people coming into the company, making everyone else's job harder than it needs to be. -Lack of communication between management and front line staff.

The good thingsNot much except for the job is interesting
The challengesHave never felt accepted by certain staff; training is not fair unless you are a favourite, and hours are horrible, there is no work-life balance, pay is not enough for the hours of the day required to be there, there are days when everything goes wrong you won't get a break, and people aka passengers think it's okay to yell at you constantly for things that 100% of the time are out of your control
