Rollercoaster. had more bad days than good days.
The good thingsThe staff/ colleagues. I had great peers and they were the best part of the job. Also the customer engagement.
The challengesPoor management, high staff turnover due to poor management. Management only think of themselves and never consult staff before making decisions. Oh they also tell you you have all these perks but then ask you to get approval before you can access said perks.

Traumatic. I left with no job to go to.
The good thingsThe general perks that go along with working for a not-for-profit organisation.
The challengesExtremely young and inexperienced leadership, from department managers to the CEO. No identity as an organisation. Exceptionally high turnover in staff, due to poor management. Staff are not equipped with tools to succeed in their roles. Nepotism is rife and due to this it makes it hard to achieve wins. Ive never experienced such a poor workplace. Avoid at all costs.

The greatest company to work at Adelaide
The good thingsI was very respected since the first contact. My selection process was transparent and smooth. They supported me and were keen to negotiate the salary based on my experience. On my first day, I felt welcome by everyone. There are plenty of flexibility, so if you have a child is the best place to work. It has been a great experience to work for SYC.
The challengesMy position is relatively new in the Marketing department, so we are still building something good.

The good thingsAn organisation that has a good mission to assist the community and those that are less fortunate. Many passionate people work for SYC.
The challengesAs a not-for profit, money is always tight and many functions are dependent on government funding. This presents challenges.

It was a great experience helping the disadvantaged of South Australia, but this was overshadowed by answering to people who really could not care less.
The good thingsI worked with some amazing people
The challengesManagement only concerned with good news stories but ignore the major issues that really affect young people. Many employees keep quiet about major issues because of fear of reprisals.

Depressing and completely unsupported as a worker.
The good thingsChoose start and finish time
The challengesVery little feedback from management. No support when there is challenges. There is a real divide between its various companies/divisions. A real us and them attitude.

Keep your head down, do your work, don't ask any questions.
The good thingsThere is some satisfaction in knowing that the work you are doing is ultimately contributing to the welfare of disadvantaged youth in Adelaide.
The challengesAs a company seeking to improve the welfare of Adelaide's disadvantaged, there is little to no concern with the welfare and wellbeing of their employees. SYC is happy to tout its successes but perpetually ignores systemic issues embedded within its toxic work culture, where employees have either given up complaining because no-one listens, or remain quiet for fear of reprisal.

The good thingsSome fabulous people & an excellent focus for services. Its great to know you're contributing to helping so many young people.
The challengesCommunication is not good. No performance appraisals or feedback. I'd hoped for scope to develop but that hasn't eventuated.
