Very unexpected and disappointing from such an "esteemed" school.
The good thingsThe kids are great!! Other good things: Higher salaries, Lunch & morning tea provided for staff, very good facilities
The challengesThe leadership team create a very toxic environment. They say all the right things and are very good at making everything perfect to the outside world, or the untrained eye, but once you're in it, the pressures and expectations of staff are outrageous, particularly in the extra-curricular realm, with very inadequate compensations. Very high inconsistencies with the way staff are treated, very much a "favourites" culture. Also very high inconsistencies with the way student behaviours, student uniform expectations etc are dealt with, especially if their parent's mean "big money" to the school.

    Amazing place to work
The good thingsHigh calibre of staff who go above and beyond for the students. There is a very welcoming environment that exists between staff and students. The School has an exceptional reputation and offers well rounded education with opportunities for all students.
The challengesWorking in an education can be a bit of a ‘shock’ to anyone if they are coming from a different background but RGS is a very supportive organisation.

A very rewarding place to work.
The good thingsThe staff are very committed to achieving the best outcomes for students. There is a very strong emphasis on student safety and well-being. A wide range of co-curricular activities are provided.
The challengesThe main challenge is to effectively manage the change that is constantly expected in education and to do so in a responsive and timely manner.

    It is a great school.
The good thingsStudents are generally courteous and constructively engaged in their studies, despite having a wide range of abilities and aspirations. Staff are friendly and highly capable. I love the strong academic focus, coupled with diverse VET offerings, and a vibrant boarding community.
The challengesAlthough it can be challenging moving to a regional centre, RGS recognises that and a lot of support is offered.
