Workers in the front line have your back. Office and management couldn’t care less.
The good thingsHospitality working staff, some of the team is nice and good.
The challengesManagement and understanding. They do not care. Seen a rostering manager bag out a worker for going home early due to a “family emergency.” She used inverted commars with her fingers.

A Truly Rewarding Experience I’ll Always Cherish
The good thingsWorking at The Shellharbour Club was truly one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. A place where lasting friendships were formed, and personal and professional growth was genuinely supported. The team culture is welcoming and I felt valued, encouraged, and challenged in the best way.
The challengesYou won’t find a more welcoming workplace. From the team to the customers, everyone made it feel like home. The work was genuinely rewarding, the atmosphere uplifting, and every shift felt like you were part of something truly special. the most difficult and heartbreaking part was saying goodbye.

Working in a high-paced club venue demanded quick thinking, constant energy and the ability to stay calm under pressure - an experience I thoroughly enjoyed.
The good thingsWhat I liked most about working for The Shellharbour Club was the flexibility with work life balance. Meeting different people and connecting with customers, getting to know regulars as well as meeting new faces. Worked very closely with staff and built friendships outside of the workplace.
The challengesSome challenges I faced were handling complaints and conflicts. Intoxicated and rude customers although management and supervisors handled them quickly and professionally. Very high pressure environment, being on your feet for hours, however got sufficient time to rest and recharge.

A soul sucking and unsafe work environment except for the few friends you make. I was glad to get out.
The good thingsPay was always on time and you get good experience with a variety of customers.
The challenges- could never communicate to management in a timely manner or about complaints. - as a young staff member people pawn off the worst jobs for you to do it all - very unsafe environment working late nights as security are not allowed to do anything unless management gave them the all clear - why are they having young girls clean mens toilets at 3am without security? I was terrified

This place is the worst example of hospitality. I will not recommend it to anyone who wants to start in hospitality as it will leave you with a bad taste. Look for other hospitality venues If you don't want to lose yourself. They do not value people previous hospitality experiences and do not welcome any fresh ideas even though they say the contrary. This place is not a healthy environment to work or grow. This Club would rather lose good employees than fix their toxic management.
The good thingsGain few good friends Salary on time
The challenges-You are expected to work if they are under staff but if you need an annual leave day, your request get dismissed. -Lack of support from certain management - The arrogance and tones - ( definitely not what hospitality is all about) - You are invisible until something is needed from you. - Lack of staff training - And when asked, answer given is no budget for training of staff ,again this is not what hospitality is all about. (Constant training need to be in place) - They need improvement in people management especially when it comes to working with different cultures - way to go - Their higher management is 30 years behind with their staff management skills. - Higher Management micro-manage Managers who then b_ _ _ y staffs. - Not the right people for problem solving among staffs, they need to review their approach. - They need to review the safety and well being of staff who have been in situation where they were in presence of aggressive clients - There is no counselling provided. - Staffs and Quality of services are not their main priority.

Sellies was one of the best years of my life, but it was still hard yackka. If you can do the nights, and the hard hours, the workplace is worth it!! I miss all of the people at shellies and will forever remember the place.
The good thingsI really loved working at shellies, the staff were amazing, at 21, I was making the most I ever had, and all of my fellow coworkers were super inclusive and lovely. I resigned because the night hours were tough o the soul, but I really mean it when I say that that was one of the best jobs I ever worked. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I was no longer doing nights.
The challengesThe managers expected a lot, I was working full time and still getting called in for shifts for an extra 4+ shifts a week. The night shifts also really took it out of you, I hadnt worked shift work before and was shocked when I got into it, but that was due to the hours, not the workplace. There was clearly a shift between most of the "upstairs" workers and the "downstairs workers" and sometimes us staff felt lower.

    Happy when I left.
The good thingsMake some good friends with coworkers.
The challengesAlways understaffed, never appreciated, always expected to cover shifts, upper managment never to be seen caring about any of the lower workers, no staff perks, always micromanaged, inflexible rostering with uni, pay is low.

I was so happy when I got out.
The good thingsThe people I worked were fantastic, made some good friends.
The challengesIt’s micromanaged, mangers are not the friendliest. Hours are long and always short staff. Don’t like it if you say no to extra shifts.

Surely you can find a better place to work.
The good thingsThe payment is always on time.
The challenges-Very busy and always with less staff than what they should have, which makes the shift very stressful and the waiting time being 1 hour for simple dishes. -Split shifts that end up being straight shifts because you gonna have to work on your break as well. -A huge culture of “calling in sick”, expect to have at least one person calling in sick everyday, which makes you doing always the job of 2-3 people, making you lose your breaks and doing heaps of overtime.

Not great for your mental health.
The good things-Met some lifelong friends and workmates.
The challenges-Not much room for career development -8 hour gaps between shifts -Late nights -Constantly micro managed -Expected to drop everything and come in on your day off, not reciprocated when you need a day off or apply for leave -High staff turn over -Feedback to management is rarely listened to. -Poor work life balance.

    Couldn’t wait to leave
The good thingsDefinitely the people you worked with and that’s about it
The challengesHave to give 2 months notice before a day off, which will likely get declined. Not flexible with swapping shifts, or if you’re at Uni

The good thingsReceive a lot of training, nice modern club to work at
The challengesLate shifts working until 4am & 6am, felt management didn’t value staff, pretty much no work/life balance, felt like a number not a valued person at work.
