Do not work for this organisation!Unless you want to be unhappy be micromanaged & feel like a child!
The good thingsNot a whole lot; perhaps the work life balance if you are lucky enough to be able to move to a roster that allows for more of a work life balance but that is extremely difficult to do and you can get work life balance in other jobs.
The challengesPay is awful and not worth it - training wage is well below $30ph and you aren’t above $30 for at least 12 months- shift work you can get okay money but it’s not worth it for your body- weekly night shifts straight from day shifts- And you work 6 weekends to get 2 off. The micromanaging is appalling. Management should not be in the positions they are in having zero qualifications or degrees - they have no idea how to talk to people or treat people. The culture is not what you’d expect for a workplace doing what it does - dealing with high stress and emergency situations. You raise concerns or feelings and you are never validated you are blamed for how you yourself are feeling. Staff turnover is huge and it is very evident as to why - leaders when you start make you believe you’ve landed the best job- it’s all an act they will after a period of time become rude and barely interact. Promotions only occur if you are friends with higher. Over worked! constant queues - undervalued.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. All that is good is the pay.
The good thingsMaking friends - only if they are genuine - most people are sticking a knife in your back.
The challengesThe culture is terrible - full of people who like to be unkind to others and people who like to speak inappropriately. If you have a genuine concern you are thrown aside.

    Great teams, that’s about it.
The good thingsThe crew you work with-they really become your family. The pay is good after the consolidation period, but whether that makes up for the high stress and lack of work life balance, who knows
The challengesInitial 5week training is too rushed, with one or two trainers micro-bullying/passive aggressive. To expect new staff to get on the floor after 5weeks regardless of mentoring is ridiculous. The amount of information within those 5weeks you have to memorise and learn for weekly multiple assessments on top of learning a very ancient computer system -- this isn't effective and many do burn out even in this initial 5weeks. Lack of support from upper management is evident just from team leaders. When you start, you get all the typical "great place to grow, great place to blah blah" but it's all just jargon. There's a reason this organisation has a VERY highly turnover of about 20% of new onboarding staff leaving within first 6months. If they want to keep the good staff from leaving they really need to revise the organisational culture particularly on the floor.

    A challenging experience
The good thingsI met some really lovely people in my course. Instructors were helpful. Nice facilities in building.
The challengesTraining was way too rushed, I felt like I was pushed to be signed off and on the phone by myself before I was ready which trigged a lot of anxiety as well as knowledge gaps for me. If you are a fast learner with no other stressors in your life you will find it more manageable. The computer system is outdated and not user friendly. The pay when you start is pretty shocking. No flexibility to change your roster when you start so chose very wisely the hours that are going to work for you.

Triple Zero is the epitome of "it's who you know." The higher ups are a disgrace.
The good thingsThe annual leave is decent.
The challengesCall takers are understaffed and overworked. The MECs (Bosses) are underqualified and overpaid insults to the company that spend the vast majority of their time planning their next work party. Most of them don't even know how to call take/dispatch

Not worth the mental stress and toll it takes on your personal life.
The good thingsThe money and the job itself.
The challengesIf you thrive in toxic workplaces that will tear you down to be a shell of a human this job is for you. You work so hard to serve the community and give them the best care only to be treated like a number with zero empathy. I wish I could tell you to try it to see if it's for you but even though the job itself is quite good, the people there can be some of the worst you will ever come across in your life, so protect your sanity and self worth

Such a shame the workforce is not appreciated by management
The good thingsThe operational staff, Call-Takers, Team Leaders and Administrative staff are typical of most people working in the emergency sector; hard-working, humble and delightful. They truly make a difference. The outstanding dedication these people have to their roles is remarkable. And inspiring.
The challengesWhat's not inspiring is the appalling toxic work culture. The Executive state many key messages about "working together", "unity", "togetherness", "treating your fellow colleagues with respect and kindness". The reality is anything but. Too many restructures, too little strategy and a top down "silo" environment.

Generous pay is not worth the lack of support
The good thingsPay was appropriate for the role. Parking onsite. Relatively good benefits with Enterprise Agreement. Some general rewarding elements when operational and assisting the community.
The challengesPoor upper management who lacks insight into anything below them in the Org Chart at TZV and have little to no impact on the growing poor culture due to consistent team restructures and poor financial decision making. Very top heavy organisational structure that is mainly all hired from within TZV so breeds a sense of bias amongst the teams and most generally seem to care more about their own role and position within the business. Lack of collaboration and still a very “silo” and old school approach to managing teams and team members. Noticeable culture issues with the Operations team members and support staff who generally have a mistrust and disrespect for the work each team does.

It's a toxic work environment where management generally don't care much about staff, the public or wellbeing in general unless it affects their KPIs.
The good thingsThere aren't any other than your paid breaks, but they can still call you in with only a second's notice.
The challengesIf you like to be micro-managed, never rewarded for all your hard work, never told "thanks", and have 95 percent of your annual leave rejected because there isn't staff numbers to replace you, then this is the place for you.

    Think twice!
The good thingsA 'for purpose' organisation delivering a critical service for the benefit of the community. Small pockets of helpful colleagues.
The challengesA bureaucratic beast of enormous proportions, with a 'do it my may' leadership. Too many 'jobs worth', 'not my problem' attitudes from people that have been there too long and not experienced successes in the outside world.

The good thingsYou create a great bond with your team and get to work with some amazing people. It is such a fulfilling job helping others. There are so many different career opportunities within Triple Zero Victoria.
The challengesThe roster initially can be a challenge if shift work is something new to you however it does not take long to balance things out.

All the stereotypes and clichés you would expect from a public service role.
The good thingsThere are a few good people at the staff and lower level management roles.
The challengesChaotic and bureaucratic environment. Very low levels of morale - the positive reviews here are mostly from the call taking and dispatch staff. Fixed term roles than might not be renewed.

ESTA is a fantastic place to work for a good variety of work opportunities, with high pay and good leave entitlements.
The good thingsThe shift work working 2 days 2 nights 4 off. Essentially means when you take annual leave into account you are working less than 50% of the year.
The challengesWorking Nightshift, however with good quality preparation it is an easy life balance.

The good thingsThe work can be challenging but also very rewarding. The pay packet after including penalty rates (which isn't currently advertised very well) is great, especially after the first year or progressing from call-taker to dispatcher.
The challengesShift work isn't for everybody but most find a rhythm to get through.

Fantastic support from colleagues, challenging career with growth opportunities.
The good thingsThe people are amazing, providing wonderful support both in a professional sense and more on a personal level. The rotating roster allows for days off to be on weekends, or weekdays to be able to get life admin done, plus four days off allows for mini-breaks every rotation or the opportunity to pick up overtime if you're wanting to save some extra cash. Recent changes in management has resulted in more initiatives to increase staff levels, in particular for Ambulance, also a better approach and support for mental health and staff welfare.
The challengesShift work is the biggest challenge, adjusting to low levels of sleep, sleeping during the day missing out on events due to being rostered on. The nature and content of calls can also take it's toll if you aren't actively using strategies to manage your own mental wellbeing.

The good thingsMany opportunities for career advancement with on the job training. Great salary/leave arrangements. Standard roster is 4 on, 4 off; permanent 4 day weekends are a definite bonus.

Work with great people, help the community and great job satisfaction.
The good thingsESTA is a great place to work and has continued to improve since I've been here. I enjoy my role as it is challenging, fast paced and varied. No call, hour or shift is ever the same. As a call taker you are the 'first' first responder, getting a caller what they need and also helping emergency services know what they are walking into. As a dispatcher you are the calm voice for members in some truly challenging situations. There is massive job satisfaction knowing you've helped the general public and kept members safe. The pay is great and working 4 on 4 off provides great work life balance with family.
The challengesShift work can definitely have its challenges as well as 12 hour shifts. It's a rotating roster but be prepared for weekend work and public holidays (although paid very well).

ESTA is a fantastic place of employment for those suited to the type of work one faces. The work is meaningful, the pay is great and there's significantly more leave available than standard 9-5 jobs. The shift work is great for me and my situation, so I love working there.
The good thingsGreat wages as a result of a range of shift penalties Shift work can allow for lots of leave when used well Supportive team environment Meaningful work that helps the community
The challengesThe nature of the subject matter simply isn't for everyone Shift work is also not for everyone and can mean missing out on things like Christmas, family celebrations etc at times A very feedback-heavy environment that can be a tough adjustment

ESTA is supportive and has many career oppurtunites for people wanting to give back to the community.
The good thingsESTA has caring and supportive staff. Team leaders are sure to check in with staff regularly and encourage regularly leave for a great work/life balance. Great opportunities for career development and overtime.
The challengesIt can be difficult to adjust to shift work. However, ESTA has full and part-time roles available with flexible shifts. Content of the emergency calls can be overwhelming. The people calling are generally having the worst day of their lives. ESTA have many options to assist staff such as peer support officers, mental health clinician visits and encourages regular leave.

I have only been here just over 6 months and I love it. Some calls are definitely harder than others, but all the staff here are so supportive and are there for you whenever you need. This is probably one of the best workplaces I've worked in. The work life balance is great, and I actually look forward to coming to work every day.
The good thingsESTA is a great place to work. Everyone is very welcoming and lovely. It's great knowing you are making a difference in the community and playing a role in helping keeping people safe. It is such a rewarding role and I feel very privileged to be able to do this job,
The challengesThe challenges of working at ESTA are definitely the nature of the calls. They can be quite full on at times, but the Team Leaders are so great at making sure that everyone is okay. There are also a lot of great services that ESTA provides to help with the rough calls. Another challenge would be the long shift times. Working 4 12-hour days (especially with the night shift) can get quite tiresome, however the 4 days off in a row compensate for that. It really isn't the job for everyone, but if you love helping people and want a rewarding job then I would highly recommend anyone to give it a go.

They expect a high standard of productivity and commitment from their staff and provide a fantastic salary with multiple opportunities for career advancement.
The challengesAdjusting to shift work and night shifts can be challenging. Given the nature of work, some of the calls can be very confronting, however adequate support is easily accessible.

ESTA isn't just a job, it's a career - and a highly rewarding one at that.
The good thingsAmazing pay. Working on a 4 on 4 off rotating roster (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off), meaning you only work for half of the year - before factoring in generous leave entitlements. Great potential for internal growth and development. Being a part of a diverse workforce. Receiving 6x30 minute paid breaks every shift (work 90 minutes, take 30 minute break). The ability to cross-train into other services to become multiskilled. Having 3 centres across metro Melbourne and regional Victoria, each with their own perks, giving more flexibility and adaptability if wanting to relocate. Feeling like you're generally making a difference and helping the community, giving a great sense of job satisfaction.
The challengesAdjusting to working 12 hour shifts, including 2 nightshifts every 8 days. Working in a highly stressful, fast paced environment - while it can be very rewarding, it can become mentally taxing if you don't regulate your own mental health.
