No flexible work option. Clock watchers.
The good things the salary and benefits
The challengesThe toxicity of the culture (which comes from the top downwards) is breathtaking. I'm one of at least four people that I know who left because of the micro-managing, negativity, and lack of support and basic human decency.

Would not recommend - the salary and benefits (while great) are not worth it.
The good thingsThe majority of the people I worked with were genuinely lovely - intelligent, kind, and passionate about helping the public and supporting each other.

Could be good - but recommend looking elsewhere
The good thingsSome wonderful co-workers Helping out the patients Reasonable wages
The challengesVery high turn over of staff, and consequently team are overworked and completely inadequate training. Supervisors who do not communicate or listen to staff. Really uncomfortable work environment.

If you plan to come from overseas don't believe the slick adverts. Everything is expensive, housing is scarce. You're just a number to exec.
The good thingsSome great people at grassroots putting in the hard yards. Good team ethos. Working with the community. Varied role.
The challengesOrganisation talks the talk but absolutely no walk. EBA's mean nothing to exec. Safety is compromised and implementation of nurse ratio's are a joke.

Career development, rewarding therapeutic work and great team environment.
The good thingsDiverse work, assisting the most vulnerable populations, every day is different. Great salary and entitlements when permanent particularly e.g. parental leave, otherwise good flexi-leave and other leave entitlements. Yearly pay rises and opportunity for unionised movement. Warm and friendly team and supportive management which provides opportunities.
The challengesLayers for approvals particularly when purchasing for the department and you have to be resourceful. Aspects can be completely outside of you control, but that's what you get in for working for a large government organisation.

An absolute waste of my time
The good thingsLeave hours and flexi accrual. Above average pay for a government department.
The challengesOutdated systems, purple circle management, bureaucratic bottlenecks, gatekeeping, reverse ageism, to name a few. Go here only if you want a job and not a career because the best you can get is a contract extension.

It was a learning experience, not in a good way.
The good thingsThe pay was good. It normally wasn't a high stress environment.
The challengesThe management is really bad and they are quick to throw you under the bus if anything happens. There is little to no chance for career development.
