    Opportunities for greatness
The good thingsGreat facilities, resources and community morale. All staff genuinely care about the children’s learning and development. Children and families are beautiful to work with.
The challengesTeaching team are incredible. Learning support teams are pivotal yet underpaid and unappreciated. The EBA for support services is always lagging with no sign of recognition/motive to change if significantly. Fast growth means that structures are messy. Upper management, leadership and executive are playing chess. There are many egos in contest, which detracts from forward growth.

The good thingsGreat support staff. Generally collegiate teaching staff. Lovely students. Beautiful grounds. Teaching load is significant but students make it enjoyable.
The challengesManagement - very subtle, understated undermining from one or two people. Concerns raised but not addressed. Management has reputation for exclusivity and inability to genuinely listen to staff concerns.

The good thingsA wonderful place to work; great kids, great staff, great grounds and a supportive environment to work in.
The challengesChallenges are a big campus to get around in between lessons, but not really a problem.

The most rewarding teaching job I have had in my career.
The good thingsIn my nearly 30 year teaching career this is the longest I have worked in one school and there is one reason for this, I love it! The students are enthusiastic, happy and eager to learn and the support from my colleagues is first rate. There are so many opportunities for the students to learn and grow in all aspects of school life not just academically but also physically, musically, intellectually and spiritually. It is a happy and welcoming place where it is a pleasure to work. The grounds and facilities are amazing and it is a beautiful environment to work in.
The challengesAs it is a school with high standards this often means that the demands put on the staff are also high but having said that, if you commit to working in a school like this you have to expect to work at that standard. This is not difficult but has been extra challenging over these last 2 years where much of the teaching has been online and offsite, something all teachers have had to face.

The best independent school in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs
The good thingsWonderful feel and physical resources are excellent, the co-curricular offerings are high quality (particularly their sport program), academic results are high as a result of a committed team approach to each students learning
The challengesThe school has no real challenges - any issues are resolved in a timely manner, parents and students are respectful and appreciative of the opportunities they have at the school

10+ years and still look forward to every day.
The good thingsThe staff, students and wider school community are good people. They care about each other and offer support, encouragement and care.
The challengesIt is a very busy place and there are so many great programs and activities and initiatives to get involved in. It can be a little overwhelming for students (and staff). A good problem.

    Great Community Spirit
The good thingsI love the Yarra Spirit and the way that we have so many families prepared to get involved in the Yarra Community. The students (and past students) all seem so well-rounded and polite and the teachers go out of their way to help their students, always taking that extra step. There really are some great opportunities that Yarra offers its students and staff.
The challengesAlways too much to do!

The challengesManagement that have unrealistic expectations of the pressure they put on staff in terms of workload and the VCE results which drive the whole of the secondary school curriculum.

I would recommend this as a place to work - the kids make it all worthwhile but I would also say to be mindful of staff politics and management mind games.
The good thingsGreat staff and lovely kids. The grounds are beautiful. The management team can be supportive and generous if it suits them to be so.
The challengesManagement Team has very poor communication skills despite the belief that it is open. This is not true unless you are on the inside or one of the chosen. Considerable demands can be placed on staff at different times with little recognition of what is already underway or that staff have put in more than already required.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Yarra Valley Grammar and would highly recommend it to other teachers.
The good thingsThe staff and management were good to me. Easy to park on campus.
The challengesIsolated from other departments and we were located in the maths department in the maths building. I worked in the maths department and we shared facilities with the students. It was particularly difficult sharing the photocopiers.
