Fake overseas job placement offer requesting processing fees
Summary: Scammers are impersonating SEEK by sending fake job offer letters and congratulatory notices to candidates, claiming they have been selected for overseas work opportunities.
Recipients are asked to pay a large sum of money in processing fees to cover requirements such as interviews, biometrics, accommodation, medical checks and flight tickets. These messages are fraudulent and not associated with SEEK, despite the use of the SEEK branding.
Tactic used: Using brand impersonation and false promises of employment. Scammers misuse SEEK’s name, logo, and tone of communication to appear credible and trustworthy. The scam exploits job seekers’ eagerness and hopefulness for a job opportunity to defraud them of upfront payments for “processing” or “requirements”.
Top recommendation: Be cautious if you receive an offer that appears to be from SEEK but requests payment for any reason. SEEK will never ask you to pay money as part of the job application or hiring process. If an offer or message looks suspicious, contact SEEK directly through official channels to verify its legitimacy before taking any action.
