Strong 2021 ad growth continues into February

Close to 12 months since COVID-19 severely impacted the employment market, the latest SEEK Employment Report shows continued improvement, with the healthiest year-on-year job ad growth since the pandemic began. In February, there was a year-on-year growth of 12.4% and a month-on-month growth of 4.1%. For the first time since before the pandemic, this was the case across all states and territories.

Demand for Hospitality & Tourism sector climbs

There has been significant growth in demand for roles within the Hospitality & Tourism industry, which has risen at a national level in the last fortnight (ending Apr 4) by 110%. This is driven by strong growth in WA, up 166%. Other states that experienced an upwards trajectory in this industry are SA (+147%), NSW (+94%), ACT (+88%) and VIC (+77%).

Lockdowns continue to impact job ads

We were reminded in February that restrictions will still be a factor in 2021, with WA & VIC both experiencing lockdowns. Despite being short, they had a noticeable impact on job ad postings. The good news is we can see that recruitment activity recovers quickly once restrictions lift.
