What's it like to be a Civil Project Manager?
Civil Project Managers (also known as Construction Project Managers) oversee large construction projects. They supervise subcontractors, attend project progress meeting and monitor compliance with building and safety codes and regulations. They are charged with ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of construction projects.Tasks and duties
- Negotiate the contracts of subcontractors, communicate with inspectors and architects
- Meet with construction managers and coordinate the delivery of materials with vendors.
- Review land surveys, assess project estimates and budgets, inspect existing structures, create design plans and review potential safety issues.
- Generate reports focusing on project progress, job status and costs.
How to become a Civil Project Manager
Pathways to becoming a Construction Manager combine formal training with practical experience. Generally, Construction Managers have extensive experience in the construction industry, and hold a qualification such as the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) (CPC60212).
- 1.Most Construction Managers start out as entry-level employees in the construction industry. Everyone working in the construction industry needs to have a White Card. Holding a valid White Card means that you have completed official, certified general construction induction training with a registered organisation within Australia.
- 2.Complete a qualification such as the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) (CPC60212). This course is designed to give you an advanced knowledge of building projects to allow you to provide advisory, administrative and management services for the construction of large, high-rise and complex buildings.
- 3.Check the builder registration requirements with the appropriate licensing body in your State or Territory.
