How to become a Microbiologist
- Complete a bachelor degree in medical science majoring in Biology. This is typically a three–year course of full–time study. Prerequisite subjects include science, English and maths.
- Complete postgraduate study such as the Master of Science or Master of Applied Science (Microbiology). These courses typically take two years of full–time study to complete.
- Consider completing a Ph. D such as the Microbiology and Immunology – Ph. D. This is typically a three–year course of study.
- It is also recommended to join the Australian Society of Microbiologists (ASM). You can become a Student member while studying, and a Professional member after graduating from a minimum three–year qualification and completing two years of postgraduate work.
