Tasks and duties
- Assisting with the daily activities of the procurement department.
- Planning for the purchase of equipment, services and supplies.
- Monitoring and enforcing the company's procurement policies and procedures.
- Reviewing, comparing, evaluating and approving products and services.
- Managing inventories and maintaining accurate records.
- Maintaining and updating supplier information.
- Maintaining good supplier relations.
- Negotiating contracts.
- Researching and evaluating prospective suppliers.
- Preparing budgets, cost analyses and reports.
How to become a Procurement Officer
While formal qualifications are not essential to become a Procurement Officer, they can improve your skills, knowledge and employability.
- 1.Consider completing a VET qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Procurement and Contracting (PSP40616), Diploma of Business (Procurement) (BSB50120) or Diploma of Procurement and Contracting (PSP50616).
- 2.Alternatively, you can open up a broader range of career options by studying a bachelor degree, such as a Bachelor of Business (Logistics and Supply Chain Management).
- 3.Gain experience in an entry-level role in procurement or logistics.
