How to become a Special Educational Needs Teacher

SEEK Learning
You will need an undergraduate degree at minimum, preferably majoring in special needs.

  1. Complete a Bachelor of Special Education. It will take 4 years to complete full-time, and you’ll need to have completed year 12 and received a satisfactory ATAR, or you’ll need to apply for special entry.
  2. You’ll need a Working With Children Check, a police check and it would be helpful to obtain a First Aid Certificate.
  3. If you want to teach in public schools, you’ll need to get an approval during your course to be able to go straight into a job. Make sure to check out your state or territory’s education department regulations to ensure you have every option available to you.
