How to become a Structural Engineer

To become a professionally accredited Structural Engineer you are usually required to complete an undergraduate degree and a Master of Engineering.

  1. Complete a Bachelor of Engineering (majoring in civil engineering). This is usually a four-year course. Course structure and entry requirements vary between institutions.
  2. Structural Engineering is a specialty field of Civil Engineering, so some additional training is often required. After completing a Bachelor of Engineering, you may decide to continue studying in order to obtain an Honours degree with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  3. Consider further education such as a postgraduate degree in engineering in order to attain the level of Professional Engineer.
