What's it like to be an Early Childhood Educator?
Early Childhood Educators care for infants and young children in a range of settings to help meet their social, emotional, physical and educational needs.
Tasks and duties
- Supervise children and engage them in age-appropriate activities.
- Assist in recording information about children’s development, behaviour and progress, and communicate this to their parents, carers and other professionals who may be involved in the child’s life.
- Maintain a clean, healthy and educational environment for children to play and learn in.
How to become an Early Childhood Educator
To become an Early Childhood Educator in Australia, a VET qualification is usually required and you may need to attend an interview. The minimum qualification is a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121).
- 1.Complete a qualification in early childhood education. This will usually be a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121), or a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121). A Certificate III is a usually a prerequisite to gain entry into a Diploma program.
- 2.To work in an early childhood setting, you will need police clearance such as a Working with Children Check, and it’s likely you’ll need to commit to completing a First Aid certificate.
- 3.There are many opportunities for those working in the field of early childhood. Early Childhood Educators can gain additional qualifications to become an Early Childhood Teacher or a Childcare Centre Manager.
