I was proud to be at AGL Bayswater Power Station, leading people and maintenance strategy.
The good thingsCross-team collaboration, career development and succession planning.
The challengesThe VUCA energy industry frequently requires an agile approach.

A great place to work even as it faces significant transformational headwinds.
The good thingsGreat culture, leading technology platforms and systems. One of the best organizations that embraces inclusiveness and diversity.
The challengesConstant change and headwinds as the industry as a whole transforms. Having said that, AGL is 188 years old and have transformed and evolved for almost 200 years.

The most toxic place on Earth
The good thingspay was OK - the ONLY thing that was good
The challengesI have read about toxic workplaces - now I have experienced it. It is absolutely shocking. The callers are always complaining BUT are nowhere as bad as management and the constant shifting of goal-posts

Not a great place to work overall
The good thingsThe office is nice and there are some great people
The challengesToxic, very toxic, lots of gaslighting, lots of people not taking accountability for their own mistakes, lots of people with large egos, alot done for optics only (eg. diversity etc) micromanagement everywhere

Best team experience and direct leadership support.
The good thingsi made a number of life time friends here within my team and with other teams. I like the hot desking. My managers were a great support to me when i went through a traumatizing relatipship breakup, and i used the EAP councelling and financial advice.
The challengessenior management had many arguements. I did a culture survey, and someone in senior management tried to bury the results instead of sharing.

A horrible experience that I'm glad is behind me
The good thingsDiscounts on staff energy plan
The challengesWorking in a broken and hated industry. The role is bascially a customer hardship and complaints handling centre in which you're still expected to meet unrealistic sales targets. The work environment that's full of toxic positivity and professional gaslighting. Lots of talk about values and diversity but it's all essentially just corporate lip servce.

I have the autonomy to excel in my role and I am proud of the diversity and inclusion I can promote in my hiring process.
The good thingsThe diversity and support for equitable hiring. The salaries are on the higher-end and the culture is to drive close and supportive relationships.
The challengesLittle too much reactive decision making and restructures.

I wouldn't even use this company as a customer, they don't deserve the good people they have there (most of which are looking to get out for the same reasons I outlined.
The good thingsI had great working relationship with other members in my team.
The challengesterrible management, disorganisation, no work life balance, middle managers on their own empire building quests & senior managers have their heads in the sand.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to cement and grow your career
The good thingsThe work culture is like no other, if you work here expect to make friends for life. The training is second to none and there is ongoing support for your development and to ensure you meet KPI’s. Performance is rewarded through incentive programs and engagement activities such as award nights. You also have an opportunity to make a positive difference to customers who may be in difficult situations. You receive coaching from your leader as well as one on one time each month to help with your career development and overall success.
The challengesThe influx and large volume of calls can sometimes will like there isn’t time to catch your breath, however it makes the day go quicker!

Can't recommend but grateful for friendships formed
The good thingsSome truly fantastic teams with great culture in pockets. Some incredible colleagues and leaders who have since left.
The challengesMuch talk about diversity and inclusion, reality was less so. Poor people leaders were tolerated, and people issues brushed under the carpet. Pay was below market for many roles. Progession available for those good at politicking. Overall - Very poor culture and conflicted direction at the moment due to continuous restructures, constant management/leadership changes and significant turnover at all levels.

There were many challenges, but ultimately the place broke me.
The good thingsVariety of work challenges, that varied daily
The challengesManagement and the disconnect from the greater organisation. The lack of career development and progression opportunities, salary well below industry average and Industrial relations is non existant.

Great place to work at early on in your career.
The good thingsGreat career and personal development opportunities. Managers I worked with were good, in other departments not so. Overall great people worked there, most of whom are very supportive.
The challengesSome of the managers whilst there were more of a hindrance, but luckily there were not many of them.

Good place to work for a year or two
The good thingsGet to work with some great people. Flexible work arrangements even before pandemic
The challengesAnnual restructures means no job security. Annual pay rises are capped at 2.5% and only if company is exceeding profit targets. Limited opportunity for career growth.

Great place to stay, if you have bonded with Senior Managers
    The good thingsCompetence and competitiveness
The challengesEspecially in IT, some Middle/Senior managers remain self-centric and rather employ friends than allocate work on merit; competition is too often an offshoring IT Business partner, who is much cheaper

Stability in career growth, and attention to mental health/diversity/inclusion needs more work
The good thingsGreat offices, and very positive high level and senior leadership
The challengesLower to middle management were not and continue not to be trained/up skilled in both diversity and mental health conversations. Considering this is a big thing spoken about from a branding perspective, to the greater market and by the CEO of the company, the effort to engage appropriately as you make it down the chain is not representative of the perception. Very limited career progression, particularly in parts of the business where there appears to be a level of isolation, and unwillingness to encourage internal attrition and growth. The restructures! My god the restructures!! How do they restructure so frequently??

Great for 6 to 9 months, not the long term!
The good thingsGreat and friendly professionals at the operational level, very good infrastructure and support. Exposure to some of the best technology and field experts
The challengesA very unstable environment with almost no real collaboration across different teams and political toxicity at higher levels which hinders any progress made at lower levels. Contractors and consultants basically run the place making stability and sustainability an issue.
