Darwin International Airport NT 082011 to 12 years in the role, current employee
A rewarding and dynamic workplace with great team culture
The good thingsSupportive team environment with a strong focus on safety and operational efficiency. Opportunities to take on responsibility and develop skills across multiple areas of airport operations. Management is generally approachable, and there is a strong sense of teamwork, especially during busy periods. The role offers variety and keeps you engaged day to day.
The challengesLike any operational environment, there can be busy periods that require adaptability and strong time management. As the business continues to evolve, ongoing improvements in communication and clarity around processes will further strengthen team alignment and efficiency.

Crew is good but management is BAD!!!
The good thingsThe crew that you operate with everyday whether on the Braz or Jet and the passengers you get in your everyday flight
The challengesThe challenges were the hours and management not having your back. Reason for leaving wasn’t just for something different but also because manager was not a good person and unprofessional. Couldn’t go to them for anything and if you did you would either be ignored or if you lucky to get a response back it’ll be to force you to do a duty or something negative. It was never positive with her. Also with them (management) never following by the book (making you work over duty hours, forcing you to operate a duty you’re not required to etc) if operations was forcing you to do a shift be prepared for management to back them up instead of you. They’re always taking shortcuts and even now after leaving the company I am still not hearing anything good coming out of management. It such a disappointment because from someone who's suppose to be in support and to fight for you they seem to do the complete opposite. Some experienced cabin crew and pilots will have your back so you’re not alone.

If you are willing to provide your best self at work and undertake various challenges with a positive attitude, then you will enjoy your time at Airnorth.
The good thingsThe managers and employees at Airnorth are fantastic - Always willing to help and provide advice when required. Would highly recommend Airnorth to anyone who is willing to learn and apply themselves to the challenges of working in aviation.
The challengesThe main challenge for me was understanding how the processes worked at Airnorth. However my own department, and other departments were happy to breakdown processes till I could pick it up on my own. My advice would be, if you need help, ask! That is how you learn.

You work with great people. Other pilots and cabin crew are great. Work/life balance excellent.
The good thingsGreat progression and professional development for pilots. Rostering has improved for pilots. New EBA has commenced for pilots with reasonable improvements. Managers of pilot group are approachable and supportive.
The challengesMostly quite good all round. Getting annual leave at certain periods can be challenging. Some areas of the airline can be a little under resourced.

Starting in the job is good as a start in the industry or as a temporary option while waiting for a better opportunity.
The good thingsI'd say the people and autonomy
The challengesUnfortunately disappointing experience. From the moment I stepped in, it became evident that Airnorth lacks effective management, career development opportunities, and a positive work culture. Opportunities for training and skill development were scarce, leaving employees feeling stagnant and undervalued. Furthermore, the salary offered at Airnorth is well below the industry average for Australia. It's disheartening to see your hard work and dedication go unrecognized in terms of fair compensation. The work culture at Airnorth leaves much to be desired. There's a pervasive sense of dissatisfaction among employees, stemming from poor management practices and a lack of clear communication and processes. To be fair and to lend more legitimacy to these concerns, considering Darwin's relatively small size, chances are you may know someone who has worked at Airnorth or has heard firsthand experiences. I encourage you to speak to them about their time with the company; you might find that the negative reputation holds true.

Great employer, the company's investment in its employees' development is truly commendable.
The good thingsThe leadership team deserves commendation. From the moment I joined the team, I was impressed. Their support to all employees is truly exceptional. They show genuine care about the growth and development of their team members.
The challengesThe challenges are to learn the new system and ensure that we are compliant with all legalities but you get all the support and assistance so it is almost impossible to make mistakes.

Thoroughly enjoy working here! It is a fast paced, collaborative environment that is community focused, nimble and agile.
The good thingsWorking for a regional operator exposes you many elements of an airline operation that you wouldn't usually get to see or understand. Plenty of opportunities for career progression and no two days are the same!

Training was nonexistent, some days it was one rule and other days it was a different rule, unsupportive management, no amount of money is worth the stress
The good thingsIt was an essential role during lockdown so was able to still work.
The challengesWorking with micro managers, unclear directions, constant delays due to airline, nil support from managers, trying to plan anything in your life as a roster is a guide and never the same for a 24 hour period

A great employer who will put into their staff what their staff put into the company.
The good thingsFantastic staff. Management were very receptive of good ideas and cared about their team members - often going above and beyond when the need arose.
The challengesIT, like in all businesses, can be overlooked as a core business function. As such, IT budgeting and fund availability often needed to be fought for. Fortunately however, GM level were always willing to go into bat for what was needed.

Avoid any customer service roles at this company
The good thingsGood Co-workers Could be a relatively relaxed/ low stress environment when things run to plan Shorter shifts if things run to plan resulting in a sometimes decent work life balance
The challengesConsistent flight disruptions usually within the airlines control (only usual exception is weather) Consistent easily avoidable errors made across multiple departments/ areas at critical times resulting in additional flight delays Lack of communication with passengers when regarding disruptions Lack of action plans/ forward thinking during disruptions Consistently having to deal with unhappy passengers due to the airlines poor punctuality Consistently putting staff in unfair/ compromising positions during disruptions (i.e making staff work late into the night/ understaffing/ leaving staff to deal with large groups of unhappy/ disruptive passengers with little to no support) Constant schedule changes which can lead to shifts being changed or cancelled within 24 hours of start time Operations/ management staff can be rude/ unhelpful

    Constantly learning
The good thingsBeing a small operation, you learn new things everyday. The organisation is open to change and will take suggestions from anyone on how to improve. The staff travel is extremely generous. The people will become your second family. HR are extremely supportive.
The challengesBeing a small airline operating in the NT that has operated for 40+ years, some systems and processes can be quite archaic. That being said if you're willing to come up with a better way, the company will be all ears. You will work hard.

There is a revolving door of Chief Pilots, Chief Operating Officers and Cabin Crew Managers. No stability and no strategy. Employees on the front-line suffer.
The good thingsI enjoyed working with some of my peers which make workdays bearable.
The challengesThere is a lot of stress in the Airnorth workplace these days due to some bright and capable employees who are frustrated with management and their lack of clarity with regards to progression, lack of investment in upgrading decades-old systems and care-free attitude to employee engagement. There is always talk of \"growth\", yet management are cutting and cancelling flights, greatly downsizing the fleet and lack any strategy for employing or retaining staff. Current employees are now feeling overworked and increasingly undervalued.
