As far as Labs go, this is the best group
The good thingsWas given a lot of autonomy within my role, along with very constructive feedback for new ideas. Workplace was fairly forgiving and understanding of occasional errors, as long as they were not repeated. Coworkers were decent, though I cannot guarantee everyone I knew is still there. Chill atmosphere, plenty of team unity.
The challengesWithin my particular role, a lot of multitasking was required. While my exact title was Storeperson, I had to also act as Sample Receipt/Lab Maintenance (cleaning) and Lab Worker depending on the days needs and I understand some people might want a more focused role. Training for other duties was also difficult due to time based constraints place upon the lab and management priorities. Setting up the warehouse was a bit of a challenge as when I started there wasn't as much structure there, I had to implement some systems that really should have been there earlier. I'm hoping the groundwork I put in has been retained and built on. In my brief experience working with labs, this was the best but that said the work is still high pressure, with detailed and precise results expected within the quickest possible turnaround.

enjoyed my time there, met some great people but not for everyone
The good thingsafter a one year traineeship i was earning an average tradesman salary, significantly more per week when i was working away due to tax free living away from home allowance; most people were genuinely good to work with except a few project managers that were just downright lazy, often rude and hardly contributed other than writing reports
The challengesduring peak shutdown periods of spring and autumn they practically expect you to work 12 hours everyday for 4 months straight, be that locally or anywhere in australia; hotels they were booking for when living away started off great- with cooking facilities etc but this gradually turned into cheap, seedy road-ins; boiler survey work is cramped, hot, dusty and difficult - they expected AICIP level inspections even though the overwhelming majority (if not all on most occasions) were not qualified or trained to do so.
