Perfect balance of hard-working and fun
The good thingsThe workplace culture is definitely the highlight of working at AMES Australasia. This is my first office job and the start of my career, and from the moment I walked through the doors, I felt completely welcomed and supported—the atmosphere was energetic and positive. While everyone enjoys having fun and a good laugh, there’s also a strong work ethic and a real focus on getting things done. It’s the perfect balance, and I truly believe it would be hard to find a better environment anywhere else.
The challengesOne challenge I’ve experienced at AMES is that it can sometimes be difficult to get hold of people quickly, simply because everyone is so busy. It’s a fast-paced environment, and people are often juggling multiple priorities—which is completely understandable. That said, improving responsiveness or finding more consistent ways to communicate across teams could make collaboration even smoother.

I've been here about 12 months now and its been my first step into a sales rep position. I've loved it, good people and fun and flexible working day.
The good thingsStart and finish times are flexible, work with nice people and a company car!
The challengesSometimes around holidays and peak seasons (in spring/Christmas/Easter) its gets pretty busy in store with relays so we can have physically big days getting things done.
Human Resources Hi there, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We’re really pleased to hear you’ve enjoyed your first step into a sales rep role and that you value the flexibility, team environment, and company support. We also appreciate your honesty about the busy periods around peak seasons. We’re glad to have you on the team and look forward to supporting your continued growth with us.

    Always welcoming and supportive
The good thingsHonestly, one of the best parts about working at AMES is the people. The team culture here is super supportive, friendly, and collaborative — it really feels like everyone’s got each other’s back. There’s a good mix of fun and getting things done, and you can always count on someone to lend a hand or share a laugh when things get busy. It’s just a genuinely positive environment to be in, and that makes a big difference day to day. I’ve grown a lot here and actually enjoy coming to work, which says a lot.
The challengesSometimes people are hard to get a hold of, I totally understand that people can be hard to pin down at times — not a bad problem to have! It just shows we’re thriving and things are moving, which is great to see.

The harder you work, the more they expect.
The good thingsMost colleague were friendly and great to work with.
The challengesDay shift manager coming up to me every afternoon asking "why I haven't finished yet" despite me being just as fast as full-time staff. No KPIs were set. The official KPI seems to be: "why haven't you done more". My advice? If you're going to work here, take the afternoon shift to have the better manager.

The good thingsFellow employees are great to work with and very support
The challengesManagement praise you face to face about how hard you work and promise pay rises. When it actually comes to them giving payrises or overtime, they never happen. They say in their job ads there is the opportunity to grow and above award wages but it’s all a lie

AMES Australasia is a great company but I wouldn't be in a hurry to go to the Seven HIlls branch
The good thingsAMES Seven Hills Warehouse team were great to work with and interactions with other sites were good.
The challengesLeadership are not very nice if you are not a yes person and will make your worklife impossible if they take a personal grudge (for no reason at all). The payrate is minimum for maximum work.

Without trying to sound like "a company man" it is a genuine, enjoyable, friendly and cross-functionally working business unlike any I've worked in before (in a really good way).
The good thingsCulture, Opportunities to make a difference, Cross-functional and Leadership Support, openness to ideas
The challengesIt's a growing company, in size and maturity, formed from several smaller companies and systems and processes which has its natural challenges. But the challenges are recognised and consciously being worked on to drive further improvements everyday.
