This is not a Christian organisation; it is a commercial structure similar to a financial pyramid.
    The good thingsСo-workers only.....
The challengesYou are required to travel to a client for a 30-minute visit, spending more than an hour each way on a terrible and unsafe road, using your own car — and neither the fuel nor the travel time is paid.

I've never worked for a better company. The people are wonderful.
The good thingsWorking with people who genuinely care about supporting and helping those less fortunate.
The challengesDemand for community services is high, funding does not quite meet the level of need. There are opportunities for management to do better.

The most soul-destroying place you will ever work
The good thingsapart from working with some really great team members there is nothing good about this company, the manager or particular manager at the time created a toxic work environment where they pitted staff against each other discouraged working relationships however was happy to secretly take their favorite staff out to lunches and try to cause in fighting between staff members
The challengesworking in a very toxic environment, mangers only cared about their career development and when they were threatened by someone below them that had more knowledge than they did would do everything in their power to bring them down. Direct manager using personal information to bring down staff when they were most vulnerable and sharing information with other staff members. It was not that everyday staff that made this place unbearable to work it was the managers creating such a toxic environment no one wants to stay. Pay for the amount of work they were expecting people to do was below average and there were no rewards for going above and beyond. For a "Christian" organization that states they are for the love of God there was nothing holy about this place.

    Don't apply!
The good thingsFlexible schedule to suit your needs.
The challengesVery poor management. Wasn't given the correct client's address on several occasions so was driving around Sydney wasting petrol money and time whilst also getting in trouble over the phone. It was so stressful. The process to rectify a reimbursement was very tedious and difficult. You really feel used and unappreciated.

Management liked to point out mistakes without recognising your strengths. They didn't allow wfh unless you beg for it, though management does wfh whenever they want, for days in a row.
The good thingsCoworkers were just great and the teams feel like family.
The challengesThe managers. Very square and dated mentality. Rules don't apply to them.

Really great clients, just management letting the organisation down.
The good thingsEnjoyed working with the clients and providing support. Access to resources and being compensated when resources were brought with own money.
The challengesManagement just doesn’t listen, limited respect and a unhealthy environment where management was toxic. Big let down for such a great organisation

A professional, driven and diverse local not-for-profit where I'm growing in my experience and gaining fantastic leadership opportunities.
The good thingsThe purpose of our organisation - to support and strengthen our local community - drives the whole team. I work with amazing colleagues who are all passionate and talented.
The challengesThere is a lot of need in Greater Sydney and we have a big job to achieve. Everyone works hard, so some days are intense... if you're up for a challenge that isn't a problem though.

    Jul 2019
3 to 4 years in the role, former employee
Supportive & highly skilled management, great opportunity for learning & growth, challenging and sometimes overwhelming work.
The good thingsThe staff in the foster care team are beautiful; you couldn't ask for more involved or caring management. Upper management are incredibly skilled and experienced, but also very humble and open to employee feedback. Great opportunities for learning, development and training - both in house and external. The whole foster care team care so much about the clients and have a great attitude towards work and towards one another. This is a great place to learn and grow as a social worker.
The challengesThe work is rich but very challenging and stressful. Case management is very demanding and workers often feel anxious and overwhelmed. Work-life balance is quite poor for many workers, particularly those who work full time.

    Great people, ineffective management
The good thingsMost staff really care about making a difference in the lives of clients and residents. Uncommonly for a NFP, the org has the cash reserves to invest in large long-term projects which gives it a freedom to act boldly.
The challengesThe care shown to our clients and residents does not translate to care for staff. A merger with ARV in 2016 provided additional resources but the merger has been handled poorly with inefficient processes, lack of a cohesive culture and an about-face on important initiatives declared at the time of the merger. Executives seem oblivious to the issues.

Pick your hours, but no career development.
The good thingsIt's a very rewarding job- working in aged care really makes it feel as though you are making a difference. As a casual you can pick up as many (in accordance with WHS) or little shifts as you like.
The challengesThere is no room for career growth or a pay rise. As they are often short staffed, it makes the work environment stressful.
