Great working environment, challenging projects, nice people.
The good thingsAs an engineer I worked on many challenging projects and learnt a lot. The working environment was so friendly and flexible.
The challengesThe business has over fifty years of history with a wealth of knowlege and technology. However, the company relies on individuals and lacks an efficient system for keeping track of previous lessons learnt.

Good for short-term development but long term could be toxic
The good thingsPeople you work with are really helpful and Knowledgeable. Was able to learn and get plenty of experience in dealing with tough situations and having to learn on the run. Accounts, drafting team, site personnel, senior engineers and project managers were all really helpful. Well established company with over 50yrs in the industry
The challengesExpected to work long hours for no overtime pay or time in lieu, not much help from higher management at crucial times. Feel like you're thrown in the deep end when certain issues come up. Salary was below average and not much expectation of a raise even though you contribute a lot in the company and learn quickly. Noticed a lot of personnel turnover.

    Management needs an overhaul
The good thingsGet to experience projects from tender stage all the way to PC / client handover.
The challengesStubborn and unsympathetic management do not value or respect employees. Low salary, high employee turnover plus a hostile work environment. Pressure to cost-cut for short term despite usually losing money in long term.

    Horrendous
The good thingsThere isn't much here that anyone is likely to rate as a good experience.
The challengesGoing to work everyday knowing that you had to deal with an outdated and obsolete system as well as dealing with a extremely naive Management. These people are still using spreadsheets to track almost everything. Using their Account package was like stepping back in time thirty years.

Great learning curve and experience, but hierarchy is flawed. Poor communication abilities and not very good at teaching younger employees.
The good thingsA lot of work to do, always busy.
The challengesCompany in need of a very large overhaul, very old school. Lack of communication throughout and very low pay.

Some of my worst memories of life are from that place.
The good thingsQuitting. I spent 4 and a half years in this hole. I used to be a nice person. I guess i learned how cruel life can be early so thats probably the best lesson i learned there.
The challengesBuilding a job to a very high standard with limited tools because they expect you to buy them all yourself with ur below standard wage.
