An excellent example of great workplace culture and providing high quality support workers with plenty of access to therapist supervision.
The good thingsStarting a new hub has been exciting and challenging, however this is exactly why I chose to work for this company. From the management and staff they are flexible, empathetic and provide an actual GOOD work culture. I feel listened to and valued as an employee and they have been so receptive to ideas and development which has been completely refreshing. Low billable targets, more opportunities to learn, develop and provide a high end service with mutlidisciplinary team learning, sharing and working together. How they invision to provide quality services with supports, aligns completely with my values and love for the job.
The challengesAs with the positives of being allowed freedom and autonomy in a new hub, lots of tweaks and adaptability has been required, so keeping up with changes and new processes is constant and sometimes challenging.

    Challenge the status quo’s
The good thingsThe vision and drive of this company is what attracted me in the first place. Seeing its progression from a start up to an interstate provider has been awesome. Adaptive, fast paced and solution led management teams. For a therapy point of view I am lucky to work along side an excellent and passionate MDT working to change the face of Disability services in Australia.
The challengesAs with all growing companies, we have had to roll with the changes and constantly challenge our own processes and comforts to best streamline our service.

A great opportunity to grow your skills as an aspiring Allied Health Professional!
The good thingsWithin this role I have had the opportunity to showcase my skills I am currently learning in university as well as the opportunity to up-skill in a way that makes me a well-rounded and prepared future health professional. The team across the board (therapists, HQ, and team leaders) are incredibly supportive and are always happy to accomodate our chances to grow. I really appreciate the flexibility that comes with this role, especially during placement and exam time. I truly feel like I am making a difference and I can't wait to see where Ascend grows to next.
The challengesThe nature of being a support worker can, at times, be isolating; however, Ascend continually strive to bridge the gap of isolation by holding monthly team-building training opportunities and having friendly and accessible team leaders, therapists, and HQ staff to assist with any queries. Another challenge can be behaviours exhibited by clients; however, Ascend provide consitent support to help you manage both your own well being and the well being of the client.

Most supportive work environment you could ever hope for!
The good thingsThrough this role I've had the opportunity to up-skill myself in a wide range of skills in the disability sector alongside my OT degree, meaning that I've hit the ground running in my placements and am feeling very prepared for when I graduate. The whole company is incredibly supportive and has a great deal of understanding of the flexibility needed to hold employment alongside study at university. Joining Ascend was one of the best career decisions I've ever made.
The challengesIn the support work role, you're often working alone with NDIS participants which can be difficult at times if you're used to a more team-based environment, but monthly training with other local support workers and very accessible team leaders means that you've got plenty of opportunities to brainstorm and debrief.

The good thingsGreat team culture and an opportunity to make a difference in the community
The challengesYou're given high-autonomy, so it requires a high level of self-motivateion
