Helping young people develop independence is one of the positive aspects of working in Boarding.
The good thingsWorking in the ACK boarding house has been a rewarding experience. The strong sense of community, the meaningful relationships built with students, and the opportunity to support their personal growth make the role both fulfilling and impactful. Being part of a supportive team while helping young people develop confidence and independence is one of the most positive aspects of the job.
The challengesLike any Boarding House, it does have its challenges, although these are soon overcome through working with a supportive team.

    Welcoming and Supportive Workplace
The good thingsWorking in administration at the College has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. From my very first day, I felt welcomed and valued by both teaching and allied staff. I’ve had access to professional development and training that have helped me expand my skills in my role.
The challengesAs in most schools, the workload can be particularly demanding during Terms 1 and 4 when most school events and enrolment period fall within this timeframe.

A supportive, student-focused school with strong leadership and a commitment to ongoing improvement.
The good thingsA welcoming Catholic secondary school with strong leadership and a thorough induction program. Students are a delight, and staff wellbeing is prioritised. Leadership is supportive, especially around challenging behaviours, and open to teacher feedback. There’s a positive culture with ongoing support from learning leaders. It’s encouraging to see positive changes taking place under new leadership. A rewarding, student-focused workplace with a strong sense of community.
The challengesAs with any school, common challenges like workload and shifting priorities exist. The school is in a period of transition, but positive change is being approached with support and a shared sense of purpose.

A challenging workplace in the throes of change under a new principal.
The good thingsLovely people, in the main, with a very personable Principal.
The challengesVery heavy workload for 1FTE teachers including co-curricula weekend responsibilities and an additional 96 hours' work over the year embedded into a worksite specific agreement. The school is pursuing change but the burden of change seems, more often than not, to fall on the shoulders of the full load teacher.

A great place to work and progress.
The good thingsI have served at Assumption College for more than 10 years, holding several middle leadership positions during that time. I find Senior Leadership and staff alike to be highly supportive, the facilities and resources are excellent, and the students are a credit to themselves. Combined, this makes the school a truly enjoyable working environment. During my tenure, I have enjoyed career progression, including being offered a number of significant professional development opportunities and further study. The innovative curriculum is designed to allow staff endless possibilities to teach to their passions, while still developing the core curriculum requirements.
The challengesNo significant challenges that you wouldn't expect elsewhere. The strategic direction presented by Leadership is clearly aligned with the needs of the College.

A Warm & Welcoming Onboarding ExperienceFrom day one, I have been welcomed into a supportive and positive team environment. Being paired with a buddy helped me to quickly connect with colleagues, navigate the facilities, and understand the “Assumption way.” Clear expectations and goals were established in the first week, giving me confidence and direction from the outset. Located in a picturesque regional setting, the school itself is stunning! Refurbished heritage buildings, modern facilities, and expansive grounds make for an inspiring work environment. Despite the 132-year history, leadership at the school is progressive, open to fresh ideas, and encouraging of innovation and collaboration. Overall, my onboarding experience has been excellent — welcoming, organized, and fully supported. I am excited to have joined a community that values both its heritage and its future.

As a teacher I wouldn’t recommend this school.
The good thingsThe students were mostly positive.
The challengesThe clique culture amongst the staff, if you were not in the ‘in’ group you were the fodder of lies and forced to leave.

Do not work here and do not send your children here.
The good thingsNot much. Bunch of people who do not appreciate other cultures, even if catholic.
The challengesCould not help students being receiving trouble by others - all was swept under the carpet.

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you will not fit into a culture that has lost the ability to seek that which is above.
The good thingsA majority of the teachers and support staff were exceptional in their dedication to their craft.
The challengesThe high turnover if staff, in recent years, should be an indication of the challenge that teachers face.
