The good thingsTop pay, remote work flexibility, looks good on resume, nice teammates
The challengesToxic environment, stack ranking, highly competitive, horrible managers, brutal performance reviews, no growth or career opportunities, no job security, backbiting

Work here if you want to burnout, be constantly stressed and love toxic work environments
The good thingsAtlassian is a fully remote company and it pays well. There are still some good people here, you'll need it.
The challengesThe company was amazing when I first started, they really followed their values, until they had leadership changes and they bought in a lot of leaders from Microsoft, as well as a twice yearly stack ranking performance review. It became like the hunger games, no more team playing and managers will throw reports under the bus (give them bad PRs) to stay employed. If you love stress, goal posts always being moved and justifying your work constantly go for it. Check out Glassdoor, believe me when I say the negative reviews are not lying.

It used to be great, but it took a nose-dive in the last few years.
The good thingsGood salary and benefits
The challengesMiddle management is completely unaligned with company "values". Be prepared for cutthroat culture, ruthless stack ranking, toxic politics, endless micro-management and red tape.

The challengesManagement is political You have to fit in their culture mold to do well Not diverse or inclusive / mono culture

I learned a whole new way of working which I have taken on to build my own skills and how I will deliver to future job opportunities.
The good thingsThe environment as a whole is good. The direct team I worked with are great.
The challengesThere was an underlying sense of non-happiness. I struggled with a full time staff that was the same level as me as they continually sort out to undermine me. one of my managers aided with that person despite a whole series of people sharing my observation. I believe that single situation was one of the main reasons I didnt progress from contract to staff after my contract finished.

Intelligent, fast paced environment with a strong alignment on values and goals
The good thingsStrong focus on setting and achieving goals, with plenty of room to experiment and add a personal touch.
The challengesTesting the boundaries and paving the way on social, cultural and political boundaries can have an adverse outcome to the intended objectives.

I wouldn't want to be there again.
The good thingsFree beer. Some people are helpful.
The challengesA lot of politics. Your manager can have their own agenda, not really aligned with your career goals.

Growth has diluted the quality of management and allowed the toxicity of political operators to impact the company
The good thingsCulture and collaboration of most people. Envronment had plenty of W/L balance and some brilliant people to work with and be challenged by. Always pushed to think beyond your comfort zone.
The challengesInexperienced and incompetent management. Some individual agendas are becoming an issue and impacting what was a great company.

They don't just say they value employees, they show it!
The good thingsStimulating environment with challenging work, decentralised organisation with a lot of trust placed in individuals, good high-level vision and strategy from the founders.
The challengesToo much emphasis on current products and bolting on more features rather than rethinking how to meet user needs in a changing world of mobile technology. Fluid team structures makes it difficult to pin down accountability for things that matter.

    Meh
The good thingsLots of free stuff. Free food, free shirts etc... Great resume builder.
The challengesVery cliquey, everything gets decided by committee, which can really be frustrating at times. Salary was a bit low.
