support teams are based offshore and most staff work offsite or from home leaving you feeling very unsupported at work
The good thingsmodern office & amenities, great for younger engineers
The challengesyou basically work a job and inspire yourself everyday as there is no pathway to a pay-rise or promotion

a typical tier 1 consulting firm which values being a business over practice
The good thingsGood projects and good systems to support them
The challengesodd culture driven by owners vs employees split which creates a divisive workplace where opinions and advice of non-owners are largely disregarded

Only go there if to have no other choice.
The good thingsThe office was new/modern at the time.
The challengesLow pay. Greedy management. Only care about billing customers not the work quality. Company is run by HR.

Looks nice on the outside, not so much on the inside
The good thingsNice open office, most colleagues were friendly, exposures to many interesting works, good place to start your career
The challengesUpper management makes and preaches so many promises (flexible working, WFH...etc), however some middle managements will says otherwise, promotion & payrise is close to non-existant, they will try to pay you as little as they possibly can and work you to the bone

Idealistic expectations that often aren’t realistic or ideal for the team or individual, old way mindset of some leaders make this environment less pleasurable than the goals they are trying to achieve
The good thingsproject collaboration is always a positive challenge and welcomed no matter what your level is.
The challengesflexible working hours is openly advertised as acceptable but rarely is actioned (dependant of team leader)

    Looks nice from the outside
The good thingsNice office, new vehicles and free breakfast if you are at the office. High focus on equity and diversity (as long as it doesn't cost the company money)
The challengesMicromanaged by people who aren't even aware of the scope of their own project. Practically impossible to get a promotion or pay raise - what you start on is what you will stay on. Unwilling to invest in staff development or equipment. Expectation that you will travel to projects in your own time, even on long weekends. Different rates of allowances for persons from different offices doing the same work on the same project. Bottom line it is all about getting as much work for as little pay, taken to the extreme.

Feeling the pressure if you are at the mid senior level
The good thingsWork life balance i.e. flexible working hours. Not question ask if employee choose to work from home as long as this does not compromise commitments to work priorities.
The challengesCareer advancement is heavily focus and expedited on juniors e.g. graduate up to seniors resulted in some of the employees' required experience and competencies are not up to their job title, causing challenges in delivering works at appropriate quality (as required for such level/ title) and increase pressure to more senior employees (or leads) to QA prior to issue to clients. Subsequently increase challenges in project budgets.

Aurecon has a very toxic culture of trying to suppress the team member's opinion. They do not appreciate any feedback that doesn't align with the management and senior team member's decisions.
The good thingsAurecon allowed flexibility at work but that's where the positivity ends
The challengesThe team doesn't recognise the employees for the effort they put into their work and contribution towards the success of the project. Most of the senior management and the architecture team leads are very political

Aurecon used to be a great place to work and should hopefully improve in future.
The good thingsGood experienced team and quality work. Good projects and opportunities. Team culture is great. Great place if you are a young engineer as the pay and projects are great. Also good place to work if you don't have career aspirations as the roles are stable.
The challengesUpper management lost vision since departure of previous CEO. Performance reviews are about who you know and not work performance. Management not supportive but team members support is good. Majority of teams work within comfort zone and do not aspire to grow. Commercial awareness as a organisation is below average.

A good company and a long term career choice.
The good thingsI started as a graduate here with very good mentoring provided by the team lead. work was good and varied with lots of opportunities to grow and genuine mistakes allowed and corrected. healthy workplace with diversity of employees
The challengesdepending on division, work can slow down considerably but the company takes effort in re-deploying skills inter-division to share the burden of work. management changes meant sometimes lower ranked employees' skill and contribution may be overlooked

I don’t understand how things work at Aurecon
The good thingsNot your traditional engineering consultancy. Focused on bringing value to client and invest strongly in innovation.
The challengesTalent management is so poorly executed it might as well be non-existent. Promotions and opportunities are given based on who in Aurecon you know. Lack of framework between operations and market drivers means key decisions are made based on internal politics, and creates confusion
