Not recommended unless desperate for a job
The good thingsOffice Facilities were nice and modern
The challengesCompany culture was abhorrent. Management was focused on protecting reputation and looking for escape goats, rather than tackling cause of issues

Be strategic - have a time limit - expect restructure and redundancy at least every 2 years.
The good thingsGreat projects to work on
The challengesVery political, if you're not in the "in crowd" you're likely in the next round of cuts. Promotion is not based on capability it is based on "jobs for mates". If you don't know whether you're in the "in crowd" you likely aren't.

DO NOT WORK HERE - The management culture is bad and it will destroy your soul!
The good thingsThe lower level employees I worked with such as Shunters and drivers.
The challengesYour ROL’s are out to get everyone. The culture is pretty much the same wherever you go. They are so focused on making their depot look spectacular on their online meetings instead of actually fixing issues. They are focused on screwing over employees. It’s like they are taught how to be nasty. I started in the old ‘driver in charge’ days. The place ran smoothly and they never spent the day in online meetings. You can’t speak to your ROL as they always have a headset on talking to people on a screen. My mental health couldn’t stand working there anymore. Since leaving and securing a job with a very large company (different industry) I can see just how bad it is. My new managers are supportive and actually care. It’s crazy. Unfortunately I have to learn how to stop being on edge and over explaining myself as I’m so used to having to justify every action.

Poor management teaches you what not do do as a leader!
The good thingsGood team members and supportive stakeholders
The challengesPoor quality of management, no related experience and no work life balance. Many ERP systems and old legacy processes. In addition broken processes have been transitioned to an offshore services function.

While I am here for the money, like many people at Aurizon I accept that i will eventually have to leave for less money to develop my career.
The good thingsAurizon pays well and the culture is pleasant enough.
The challengesAurizon's people management systems are poor. There is not a strong focus on doing great things, being courageous or authentic. Ultimately it is the lack of growth in the business and high pays that stunts internal career development.
