Not recommended unless desperate for a job
The good thingsOffice Facilities were nice and modern
The challengesCompany culture was abhorrent. Management was focused on protecting reputation and looking for escape goats, rather than tackling cause of issues

Be strategic - have a time limit - expect restructure and redundancy at least every 2 years.
The good thingsGreat projects to work on
The challengesVery political, if you're not in the "in crowd" you're likely in the next round of cuts. Promotion is not based on capability it is based on "jobs for mates". If you don't know whether you're in the "in crowd" you likely aren't.

DO NOT WORK HERE - The management culture is bad and it will destroy your soul!
The good thingsThe lower level employees I worked with such as Shunters and drivers.
The challengesYour ROL’s are out to get everyone. The culture is pretty much the same wherever you go. They are so focused on making their depot look spectacular on their online meetings instead of actually fixing issues. They are focused on screwing over employees. It’s like they are taught how to be nasty. I started in the old ‘driver in charge’ days. The place ran smoothly and they never spent the day in online meetings. You can’t speak to your ROL as they always have a headset on talking to people on a screen. My mental health couldn’t stand working there anymore. Since leaving and securing a job with a very large company (different industry) I can see just how bad it is. My new managers are supportive and actually care. It’s crazy. Unfortunately I have to learn how to stop being on edge and over explaining myself as I’m so used to having to justify every action.

I would regret everything about having worked for Aurizon if I hadn't met my wife there.
The good thingsSome of the workers are good people.
The challengesIn regional areas NSW the wages are low. They've lost the contracts and are talking of closing the depot. There is a toxic culture among many in management in my opinion. While there is a diverse group of employees, I found that difference wasn't championed but rather admonished and treated as an inconvenience, in my opinion. There were safety issues that I felt weren't addressed, in my opinion. Some people were given new roles when injured off the job while others had to rely on income protection, while I can't know the full details of some, in my opinion it gave an appearance of favouritism. There are many reasons why I would not recommend seeking employment with this company.

Good Workers themselves are great, BUT very few if any Management have little to no Experience in running core business and too much and Too politically motivated.
The good thingsThe workers themselves are great, OT if you wanted it.
The challengesManagement has Very little to no experience in the running of trains (Don't care what experience you have working on the railways is a specialised industry), depot wouldn't run anywhere near as smoothly if the workers didn't do so much OT. The managers just dont realise this because there too busy in their little offices.

Out of touch management, toxic culture, and zero support — not worth it.
The good thingsSome of the crew were good people and made the job bearable at times. The pay was reasonable for the work being done, and the job itself could be enjoyable when you were left alone to get it done without interference from management.
The challengesManagement was the biggest issue, completely disconnected, unsupportive, and often made ridiculous decisions without understanding the job. They even hired a former cleaner as an Operations Superintendent, which showed just how little they value experience. The culture was toxic, communication was non-existent, and any feedback from train crew was ignored. Morale was constantly low, and safety was more about ticking boxes than actually protecting staff.

Don't. Don't believe the hype or their hypebole. Don't, just don't. Toxic culture where they hunt down high achievers that know the business, people and challenges. The people at the coalface are great and continually do their best to ensure the customer needs are met, they are let down by incompetent senior managers, ignorant of the requirements to run a successful intermodal business

One of the best workplaces I have ever experienced in my career.
The good thingsTeam of People, Leadership, Training, work diversity and security, convenient to public transport and free onsite parking, nice office, plenty of smiles and happy faces around
The challengesworkload can be somewhat demanding - however, there is always a reasonable expectation and resources available to get the job done.

I would not return here even if I was paid the CEO's wage.
The good thingsThere are and were some good people there, most have retired or moved on now. Still a few good seeds there.
The challengesThere is a combination of things that made this a mentally unsafe workplace for myself and other highly skilled people.

Toxic place to work. With little or no regard paid to concerns raised by those who actually carry out the work. Plagued with management who have little or minimal practical experience in actual running of trains, especially grain. Who are more interested in being seen to promote social agendas and pretending to promote safety than running and operating trains in a safe environment. Leaders have no understanding of what occurs outside of their office space or even care as long as the tonnes move and the paperwork is clean.
The good thingsOT is Available if you want it.
The challengesManagement have no practical experience in the type of work here. "Yes" people are preferred to those with any actual operational knowledge. On the surface they promote safety but in practice there is a disregard for safe practice. With cover ups of incidents and poor decisions. Toxic Environment.

    Glad I got a package
The good thingsnothing really nice to say
The challengesVery siloed and consequently dysfunctional organisation. Agendas and politics dominate the landscape, particularly on issues not relating to core business or business success. There seems to be a significant lack of understanding of the railway as a business and as a unique operating environment to a point where safety is significantly compromised.

Great place to work if you intend to just head in and get your job done and have no desire to progress beyond a driver, little chance for development unless you tick the right boxes.
The good thingsGreat culture among the workers, each person at Antiene was willing to help and teach eachother, great mentors and senior drivers.
The challengesReactive Upper management, when present, makes many questionable decisions which are not good for the workers or have their interests at heart, recently gone through a high turnover of supervisors for falsely advertising job requirements and ignoring feedback on applicants.

Avoid at all costs, you can do better.
The good thingsLeaving. Life's far too short.
The challengesPoor middle-management that are essentially baby-sitters. Using shared, aging and unsafe infrastructure and having to deal with systematic failures as a result. Excessive workloads. Box-ticking and virtue signalling in all aspects of OH&S, HR, IR and gender equality. Fundamental problems with culture, policies and renumeration. Pay and workload disparity. Family unfriendly rostering.

I currently work at JWOF as a Boilermaker and can definitely say its one of the better places to work in the region. If you are looking for a great work life balance and a supportive bunch of people its the place to work.
The good thingsHome every night, only do a 9 and a half hour shift, get a mining style roster working 8 on 6 off dayshift only, supplied the latest and greatest tooling and PPE, Provided with Aircon cooled vests and the latest speed glass helmets, Filtered shed air, Fruit supplied for morning tea, most of our improvement ideas are actioned and if not we get told why, always trialling new new tools and safety equipment, massive focus on safety here, BBQ's when we achieve safety targets just last Christmas break up we had the mobile smoked meat van show up plus vouchers handed out.
The challengesRepetitive work. Not too much overtime.

Absolute waste of time, money is ok, if you can be bothered with constant restructuring and pressure from the higher ups to get it done.
The good thingsMajority of maintenance people are good to work with.
The challengesMassive divide between different areas of the business. Seen as a lesser trades person (boilermaker, mech fitter) to some of the other trades people (electricians, diesel fitters ect). Management/corporate has zero care towards its front line workers and only cares about its image to clients and the public. Nil progression and development if you don't meet the diversity quota.
