Avoid at all costs. Not a good career option.
The good thingsFree inclusive health care and gym facilities
The challengesIt is a toxic work environment where nepotism and favouritism still rule. Competence is frowned upon at all levels.

    Choose your Corp carefully
    The good thingsOverseas deployments. Colleagues.
The challengesGetting equipment and stores to run courses, conduct exercises and then having to justify it to civilians (who have no idea) and Officers, who also have no idea. Courses that do no have any relevance or are transferable to civilian life. No real ongoing support on discharge, they forget about you.

The good thingsGreat for a young man or woman wanting to immerse themselves in a new culture.
The challengesNot the best when it comes to leaving Defence, as the military makes it difficult to transfer skills in order to boost their retention rates.

Great work colleagues but the higher echelons were very out of touch with current mentalities and approaches to training.
The good thingsHousing was available and free medical.
The challengesWork life balance and oppurtunities became restricted once injured. For the older members very little opportunity to advance.

    Opportunity of a lifetime.
The good thingsThe Army gave me experiences that I could not have achieved in any other role, they also allowed me to develop professionally within my job level.
The challengesThe military is a very different culture to the average civilian role, this presents it's own challenges which are hard to convey to the average person. Ranks, Internal Politics, and positions of individual Army units within the higher Force are a constant challenge to keep on top of. Therefore mentally it is a taxing role, and Physically there is a huge requirement to maintain fitness standards, as the role is demanding.

Disappointing, there is opportunity to progress and enjoy times. However if your chain of command isn’t in favour or there is a personality clash you can find your time very challenging.
The good thingsYou make some amazing friends
The challengesSometimes you aren’t treated fairly and often see a situation you wish you can stand up too or for and unfortunately it comes down to your chain of command it can be an unforgiving place. However there are some great people.
