The challengesIntegrity is supposed to be one of our core values. Its severely lacking across management at all levels

I loved it - they wanted me to work hard, but i was well rewarded.
The good thingsI worked for APRA from when it first started for 15 years. I was given autonomy, was well supported and loved the work.
The challengesMoving operations to Sydney was difficult for me - that is why I left

Great working environment with the potential to be one of the best places to work in Sydney.
The good thingsGreat working evironment and focus on a new culture. Much like most companies who struggled through COVID, APRA is on its way back to providing a strong on-site working style that is new for a Gov. company. They use hybrid working to allow their staff the flexibilty and comfort to navigate through the semi-post COVID space and they are working with their managers and senior leaders to improve the internal structure of the company from within. Lots to come for APRA in the coming years and a great place to be. They have a strong sense of direction, and even though they may lack a bit of guidence around processes and procedures, and communication within the company. There are a number of new outside persons though over the past year which are ready to guide them in the right direction.
The challengesThe need to work on internal processes and procedures within and across departments.

A friendly, open, safe, and overall a good experience.

The challengesProjects take longer to process, compared to the private sector.

Great place to start for anyone planning a career in banking/insurance. Though its easy to be \"pigeonholed\" as a risk professional if you stay too long.
The good thingsYou'd learn alot! Great training and people. Also exposure to c-suites early in your career.
The challengesCareer advancement is limited/slow. Remuneration is also below market.

    Toxic management style
The good thingsA government regulator that has a good reputation
The challengesBad management team - too many senior managers. Total waste of tax payers’ money! They almost do nothing at all, they only make some comments and sign off the work that have been done by others. Majority of them got the position solely because they have been working at APRA for a long time. Many of them don’t even care about the career development of their team members, because it’s not part of their KPIs, so they only care themselves.

The work environment is toxic, managers have very poor people skills and care only about themselves.
The good thingsHighly regarded in the industry. Many good staff that are self-motivated.
The challengesPerformance management is lip service, dies not work, with managers gaming the system. Managers have very poor people skills, do not know how to build trust with staff, not inspiring, and care only about themselves.
