Great organisation that has lost is way due to poor senior management leadership without vision.
The good thingsThe people who actually cared.
The challengesHectic restructures every year, if not twice a year. No care for people/employees. Lack of care for members. Terrible investment returns. Embarrassing.

Micromanaged to the second, underpaid for the emotional tollI worked in the claims team arguably the most emotionally demanding area in the entire organization. You’re dealing with grieving families, legal complexity, and life-changing outcomes. You’d expect empathy, trust, support, and fair pay. You get none of it. Instead, you're micromanaged within an inch of your sanity. We were forced to use a redundant timer tool called ACTIVE, where every case had to be manually pasted in and clocked despite timestamps already existing in the CRM. It was surveillance for the sake of control. They monitored your movements down to the second, creating an atmosphere of mistrust and anxiety. Every pause, every screen switch, every second you weren't visibly “working” was tracked. It felt like being policed, not supported. The obsession wasn't with quality or compassion it was speed. Close the file. Hit the metric. Move on. The human side of claims was treated like an inconvenience. Broken systems, outdated tech, poor documentation none of it mattered as long as your numbers looked good on a dashboard. And for all that? The role was severely underpaid, offered next to no benefits, had no real flexibility, and saw colleagues walking out the door on a regular basis. Turnover wasn’t just high it was constant. People didn’t burn out. They disappeared. If you care about doing meaningful work and being treated like a human, look elsewhere.

Working as a Case Manager at Australian Super was meaningful and rewarding, but often made difficult by unrealistic deadlines and inefficient systems.
The good thingsWorking as a Case Manager at Australian Super, what stood out most was the sense of purpose in the work. Supporting members through complex and often sensitive claims gave me a real opportunity to make a difference. The team was knowledgeable, and there was a strong focus on compliance
The challengesThe volume of work combined with inefficient processes sometimes made it difficult to provide the level of care and attention each member’s situation deserved

Positive and overall a pleasant surprise!
The good thingsAustralianSuper has plenty of opportunity for those interested in building a career. If you're positive, engaged and willing to get your hands dirty then you will do well. Due to the culture, working environment and perks, many people do stay for years which can stilt opportunity - however those willing to be challenged and developed in ways other than a title, do well. I was worried about the work being boring and stuffy, but AustralianSuper was a nice surprise.
The challengesSome of the processes can get in the way, but with organisational growth comes opportunities to define new ways of working and management is very willing to hear ideas and feedback.

I've worked for other superannuation organisations that had a real member focus. Australian Super felt like working for a bank rather than an industry super fund.
The good thingsFlexibility in working from home or the office. Nice office environment. Interesting work.
The challengesPoor management behaviours are not dealt with. Organisation is going through a major restructure and staff seem to be unhappy.

    Great place to work
The good things- excellent work life balance - management team truly cares about the colleagues and the retirement future of members - friendly colleagues - amazing growth of the fund - guaranteed annual salary increases in line with inflation as long as you meet requirements of the role
The challenges- opportunities for career advancement can be limited in some teams - can take time to get things done sometimes so need to be patient - no bonuses for back office staff

A career dream fulfilled, albeit the most stressful and unhappy 4 years of my life.
The good thingsBeing Australia’s largest superannuation fund, the experience within investment is vast and endless. The investments and strategies undertaken is large and exciting, and should be an encouragement for anyone to consider it as an experience.
The challengesDealing with incompetent and outdated management, who thrive in a highly charged political scene makes working for this fund extremely unpleasant and frustrating. Individual’s skill, experience and capability is undermined and overlooked for those who are favoured by upper management. Positions are taken advantage, and hard working staff compromised with unjustified and unnecessary restructure. And unfortunately, such atrocity is supported and shielded by people and culture.

Stress free environment with average technical maturity.
The good thingsThe office work environment is fantastic, good quality coffee machine and provisions for breakfast. Has the right feel of not too small and not too big. Has generous super and leave benefits. People very friendly and inclusive. Digital leadership has good vision and customer centric.
The challengesNot much engineering work done by the permanent staff, most technology build activities are performed by a variety of vendors which is a challenge to control and maintain quality of work. Modern practices like Devops, Automation and Agile are sorely lacking. Risk averse, Decision making feels slow.

The best place I have ever worked in more than twenty years.
The good thingsA fantastic values led organisation that does that always does what's in the members best interests. Great work life balance. Full of very talented people all working to deliver members their best retirement possible.
The challengesThe organisation is growing rapidly, and having to become mature at many things it hasn't needed to manage before, creating lots of competing priorities.

Happy with the company but not happy with too many levels of managements within the business unit.
The good thingsBalance work life, pay well to the market
The challengesToo many levels of managements in one business unit and it creates devision and boundaries among team members. Many dont like each other, team leaders dont talk teach other, they are selfish for themselves and not thinking of supporting the team for common achievement or big picture. Give middle management more training on people skills. Restructure the team and work arrangements.

The good thingsAn organisation that is actually getting stronger and more successful every day. Great culture, sense of purpose and opportunity to grow. I feel inspired by the purpose and AustralianSuper genuinely supports a diverse workplace and focus on flexible work.
The challengesWith the rapid people growth, the challenge has been change resistance of longer tenure staff.
