    A supportive and professional workplace
The good thingsA strong, professional, and supportive team — the best kind to work with.
The challengesBusy periods and workload management can be challenging at times. These could be improved with clearer processes and consistent team support.

From Christmas Casual to Store Manager, supported by great leadership and growth opportunities.
The good thingsI started at Betts as a Christmas Casual back in 2022, and within just nine months I was given the opportunity to apply for Store Manager. I’ve now been in that role ever since, which really shows how much the company values internal growth and potential. Even when I was a casual, I was guided by incredible Regional Managers, Store Managers and fellow Team Members who invested time into teaching me the skills and knowledge I use every day now. That early support made a huge difference in building my confidence and understanding of the business. I’ve been given so many opportunities for growth, learning, and even travel, which has helped me develop both professionally and personally. I genuinely feel supported and recognised for the effort I put in, and that kind of encouragement makes you want to keep improving.
The challengesLike any retail environment, there can be challenges, but you’re never facing them alone. The team culture and leadership support make a big difference in how those challenges are handled.

    Great Retail Experience
The good thingsI've always enjoyed the people! They are what make work fun and supportive. There’s a lot of pride in the brand and it’s exciting to be part of where it’s heading with the rebrand. Work can be busy, but the vibe is positive, ideas are welcomed, and effort doesn’t go unnoticed. Overall, it’s a good place to work.
The challengesLike any retail business, things can get hectic and fast-paced at times. Juggling multiple priorities can be tricky. Some processes can be a bit clunky or take time to get used to, but once you know them it’s manageable.

    Unrealistic expectations.
The good thingsThe pay was worth it. The staff discounts.
The challengesI was put on lunch cover by myself even during my training. I was only given one or two shifts a week consisting of 3 hours. within my third week they were already down my throat because i was not making as much sales as the other girls. Bare in mind I was still training. My manager was unresponsive when I would ask her how i can improve. She also against company policy started giving me 2 hour shifts and did not care when I asked why and how i could improve. It was very stressfull because it felt like they had extreme expectations but did not provide efficient time to meet the expectations. They gave me 2 hours work a week and expected me to be able to know the ins and outs of the company.

Do not apply here. I repeat. Do not apply.
The good thingsThere were amazing co workers. You could go to work and actually have a chat and learn things. They were the only thing I looked forward to
The challengesThe management is extremely poor. Within store and in head office. They never care about their employees, even to the ones who have been with the company for over 5 years. They only care about money. And it’s obvious who their favourite stores are and who they throw away to the side.

Happy that I am now in my dream career and glad I won't have to work for this company again
The good thingsFlexibility whilst studying and stable enough while I was pursuing my career
The challengesMicro-managing, no career growth, company would go through unstable periods where they would make a lot of employess redundant, no bonuses or incentives, quality of products sold were horrible so customer service team would be the ones to take the blame and it was a struggle to keep up with little to no praise/recognition from management

Amazing a growth journey & absolutely fun to my bear bones. Love it Love it !
The good thingsIt’s a business where you really feel like part of the Family. You feel like you part of something Bigger than yourself & there are great opportunities to work all over Australia if you love the retail industry as much as I do.
The challengesThe challenge for me was working with a younger demographic of people. But with the support of my experienced store manager it was easy.

At least I had friends to go through the wringer with me whilst employed at Betts.
The good things- Fellow employees, made some life long friends bonding over the monotonous role
The challenges- Poor upper management and high turnover of staff. - Many qualms I had with the role were listed in an Exit Form, but never followed up on. - Staffing is poor - I worked at Betts Kids where multi-serving is not the best to do as each family needs attention and care, but unfortunately that wasn't the case when you often had to work on your own or as a lunch cover. - Poor staff perks. - Store was tight with wages, tried to make all employees except for managers move to casual. - Wondering what was with their business decision to end Betts Kids? Kids shoes is a lucrative market with not a lot of competitors. They definitely lost a large amount of their database.

The good thingsFairly easy to maintain Store tidiness.
The challengesCompany is tight with wages. You would be in store alone all day except for a 1-3 hour lunch cover. Quality of products is terrible.

Worked at the company for five years, whilst your team is what makes the workplace great the lack of respect and care for staff has created dissatisfaction amongst staff
The good thingsFriendly staff to work with
The challenges-No incentives for staff - Constant change in management - communication from head office creates confusion due to their lack of organisation - Forceful to meet KPIs however doesn’t offer any benefits for achieving them - staff morale low

I tried to work for different departments within there company and got the opportunity to do so However I experienced that it wasn’t individual stores that suffered from bad management but the whole company
The good thingsThere’s a lot of work opportunities.
The challengesThe company as a whole is run really badly, they care more about money then they do about work place harrasment. They hire there friends for management and dismiss any bad behaviour that happens within the workplace.

Such a good company to work for, I'd recommend it to anyone
The good thingsAwesome vibe, great products, management was always wonderful to work with, truly embodied the 'family friendly' ideal, friendly competitions between the stores for best KPIs with cool prizes (free lunches, gift cards, product of choice etc)
The challengesStaff discounts were limited each S/S and A/W season, but the prices for the product are quite reasonable so it's a small obstacle not a bad one
