The challengesMy experience with this company was overwhelmingly negative due to its toxic culture, poor management, and terrible working conditions. The manager lacked leadership skills, fostered a hostile work environment, and showed blatant favouritism toward a romantic partner on staff, leading to unfair treatment of others and workplace toxicity. This favouritism empowered the partner to develop an inflated ego, leading to poor treatment of colleagues and further contributing to the workplace's overall toxicity.
Head office was equally dysfunctional, with disorganised leadership and frequent failure to follow their own strict procedures. This inconsistency created a chaotic and stressful environment, leaving store-level staff to constantly deal with the fallout. The operations manager, lacking HR experience or people skills, mishandled employee concerns, leading to breaches of confidentiality, fear of speaking out, and a lack of trust.
There were no performance reviews, pay raises, or opportunities for advancement, despite the low wages and heavy workload. Unrealistic expectations from store-level management further eroded any work-life balance, as employees were regularly overburdened with tasks beyond their job scope.
I strongly advise against working here. For current employees, consider seeking an employer who values fairness and rewards hard work. I’ve since found a company that offers growth and treats me well—it’s worth holding out for better opportunities.
